been there done that love itevery time I go(to baja that is) I HAVE pics of and from Baja and know the prep involved, what we'd like to see is the pics of your soon to be baja bike, a sort of, before and after shot if you will, especially in light of the fact that 2 smokes are quite literally a dying breed out on the Baja.

I am still on the fence about taking the cr or the xr....but leaning towards the cr.

I guess my life is 2 strokes really, every snowmobile I own, and 2 motorbikes are 2 strokes.

And my dream is to get a suzi gt,and kawiH2, and yami rz for fun street bikes.

Some people get intimidated by 2 strokes, i prefer them.

I have 3 confirmed spots, of the 4 available , gone already.

Anyone wanting in, to confirm the last spot, please PM me.

Also I am going down in feb 09 to prerun sectionslast years B500 course.

Just 2 of us so far going, have room for 1 more on that trip....we are going in a pals truck, that can hold 3 bikes in the box, and we are staying in a cheap motel, that has room for 3 guys in it, if you want to get a cot.

The feb trip to ride parts of the B500 route of last year is full.

Have 1 spot left on the June trip, if you want in let me know.

Never mind....I got an answer back from the organisers :
"No wait for the correct form. It should be available after San Felipe"
According to their site, the San Felipe is 3/13/2009 - 3/15/2009...:spl:
Seems kind of weird that that would be the earliest you can sign up...

Whoohooo! Got my new(ish) Baja 500 "weapon of choice" coming in the next couple of weeks! I'm stoked!!:hf: I'll be sad to part with the Beemer though...
BTW. Have any of you guys ever used these "Tire Balls"??? (http://www.tireballs.com/) Sounds like they're nasty to set up, but also like they work pretty good once you get them in place. I couldn't find many reviews on them...

chance it,i'm certainly not telling you what to do here-just passing on some 'food for thought info" i just finished the baja 1000 in nov with 3 other 50 yr old guy's on an 07 ktm 525 xc-w. take a big 4 stroke to race the desert! Score has been desperate to have a trophy truck win the desert races for years now.million dollar trucks getting their a$$ handed to them by a $8000 stock motorcycle just doesn't sit right with them. that being said the race courses are set up very much in favor of high speed race trucks. so if you feel comfortable running a 2 smoke for 25 miles flatout pinned in 6th gear along a dry lake bed at 150/160 kmh ,go for it,but i don't think i saw any 2 strokes in this yr's 1000! a big 4 stroke is so much more stable and reliable at speed , and a 2 stroke just doesn't have any advantages to make it worth while. a xr 650r is the perfect weapon for a race bike down there. rock solid reliable is what your looking for first and formost. gernadeing an engine 75 miles into a 500 mile race, that cost you thousands of dollars just to get to would be a real drag! also there is so much info available on setting up xr's for racing the desert, that you really can't go wrong. and please remember- free advice is worth every penny you pay for it! good luck!

Hi Folks,

im very interseted in competing in the BAJA 500,, infact,, its fever like. Im irish, ride a KTM 300 exc 2 strokein 2 hour enduro events, but next on the agenda is hopefully the Baja 500. It took me an hour to get to this forum, really id need directed to a reputible club, group that hire bikes as id be arriving and competing then back to rainy old ireland after the event.. The official web site & entry form would also be an advantage!!

What would the best bike to enter be?? refuelling?? route?? Ive just got so many questions i dont know where to start.

But i think im in the right place.

please help

regards

claran: you need to checkout www. baja .net there you will find lots of info on everything baja. including a few tour companies that will set you up with a race ready bike to do the ride of your dreams. personally i wouldn't think of doing the races down there until you have been down riding a couple of times at least! but hey everybodies different!

Do any of you guys have any suggestions on where the safest place is to store your bike/gear once in Ensenada?
I've read a few reports of entire trucks (with bikes loaded) being stolen from Hotel parking lots, etc.
We're planning on trailering 2 bikes down there, and I just want to make sure I'm not going to have to end up running

the Baja 500.
I even read someone had their truck stolen out of a "secured underground parking"...
I'm sure that these types of stories are fairly rare, but better safe than sorry.
So far I only found the following hotels that have underground parking in Ensenada:
http://www.costabajahotel.com/servicios.php
http://www.baja-web.com/ensenada/STomas-hotel.html
http://www.rosarito-ensenada.com/rosaritohotels/coronaplaza.htm
http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-378096-hotel_coral_y_marina-i
Any suggestions on the best approach would be welcomed!

Hey,
Is anyone here still planning on going to the Baja 500 this year?A buddy and myself will be going, and we just had our support/chase vehicle bail on us (for financial/family reasons:mad3:). We're hoping to maybe hook up with another team if possible. We'll be using Mag7 for our pit crew.

Anyone interested in teaming up?

thanks!
