Xr650l oil cooler?

Hello there, I have a 2000 xr650l which I bought 2 years ago and I love IT! I use it for local riding but also adventure trips. I hear so much about over heating so my question is, do I need to add an oil cooler. I don't run it hard, the previous owner and I always ran Amsoil, I did the Dave's mods work to it. My riding partner recently bought a newer dr650 which has an oil cooler, and we're going on another trip in August so it go me thinking, do I need it or not?

Thanks,
Jeff.

It's not going to hurt. I don't know if you need it or not but my XR has an annoying tick after a particularly hot ride in heavy traffic one afternoon. Maybe an oil cooler might have prevented whatever problem it is that has developed.

That must be disappointing, hopefully nothing to major . That's a concern and what I don't want to happen. I looked at Sutton's oil cooler, quite expensive but but I guess it's a small price to pay to prevent a catastrophic failure. I might make my own.

Thanks for replying,
Jeff.
