A guy at work has one for commuting on. He has a hell of a time reaching and maintaining 100kms on the hwy on the way to work. I think it would be great for in town commuting but it will be out of its element on the hwy for a long trip. His has a tough time keeping up to my drz400 in 4th let alone 5th on the hwy.

I had a 05 xt 225 at just over 200 lbs I had it doing 130km but was hard pressed to keep up to 100 on a hill!

I did 2 mods to the bike!

1/ remove brass plug from pilot screw (bottom of carb)and adjusted it from 2.5 turns out to 3.5 turns. this makes it start & run better as it comes from the factory with a too lean condition!

2/ I did a exhaust mod! check out the xt225 forum page

also have a look around for lots of other great tips for the xt!http://www.xt225.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

also "ride it like you stole it!" helps with the XT:hr:

sort of off-topic... hope original poster don't mind.

How will xt225 handle 2-up in-town riding?

Both of us weight in under 300lb w gears, what top speed I can expect? Is the suspension firm enough?

Is the seat and peg positions comfy enough for 3+ hours ride?

Thanks.

I had an xt225 a number of years ago. I use to load it up (and I do mean LOAD it up)with camping gear and head over to the Gulf Islands. The best part about that bike was that it would go any where and do anything. HOWEVER . . . cruising on the freeway was tough. It was light and it felt like it was getting blown all over the place and keeping it at 100km/hr was tough. It just felt like it was wound right out. Now, if the intention is to keep to back roads and sight see and enjoy the ride . . . then the xt 225 could be the way to go.

The reason I sold the xt was that I wanted more power. I think the xt is a great bike if you're concerned about seat height and ease of handling.

As far ar 2-up on the xt . . . I also use to take friends for rides on the logging roads up in Chilliwack. The passangers use to comment about how scrunched up they felt back there. Knees would get sore and backs would begin to ache after a couple of hours. It was tough on the suspension and the bike would bottom out on the easiest of pot holes.

I will be the first to admit that I am no bike expert. So I am not able to clearly tell you what will go wrong having a bike wound out for long periods of time. I can tell you that everything in that engine will get smokin' hot if you maintain high speed for long periods of time and areas that get over stressed can cause problems.

As I said before though, bikes are meant to be ridden and if your trip is meant to one where you sight see and take it easy then I pressume it will be no problem. If you intend to fly down the highway for hours on end at 120km/hr then things could breakdown. I rode mine all packed up with camping gear on the freeway at 100km/hr for periods of time and had no problems at all.

If anyone out there wants to be more specific please do so.

i had the same problems with my xt350. all over the road at any speed over 110km/h. but it went anywhere you had the balls to take it. i can't believer you guys ride/rode the 225 on the highway. my commute was only 27km of highway every day and i said forget it.
