I had an xt225 a number of years ago. I use to load it up (and I do mean LOAD it up)with camping gear and head over to the Gulf Islands. The best part about that bike was that it would go any where and do anything. HOWEVER . . . cruising on the freeway was tough. It was light and it felt like it was getting blown all over the place and keeping it at 100km/hr was tough. It just felt like it was wound right out. Now, if the intention is to keep to back roads and sight see and enjoy the ride . . . then the xt 225 could be the way to go.
The reason I sold the xt was that I wanted more power. I think the xt is a great bike if you're concerned about seat height and ease of handling.
As far ar 2-up on the xt . . . I also use to take friends for rides on the logging roads up in Chilliwack. The passangers use to comment about how scrunched up they felt back there. Knees would get sore and backs would begin to ache after a couple of hours. It was tough on the suspension and the bike would bottom out on the easiest of pot holes.
