Does anyone know what size forks came on the 95 XT600 ? the forks on my 99 XT600E look to be 41mm, the 99 was never imported into Canada or North America and I've had success with ordering parts for the 95, like sprockets and brake pads, but I've had no luck finding specs or tests on the 95 to see what size fork it has, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Most oil seals have the dimensions cast into the rubber casing on the top side. The numbers are often very small but I have cross referenced seals by this number many times. It will be usually in the format Outside Diameter, Inside Diameter, Thickness (Height). eg 62 42 18

You might have the remove the ring clip or even the seal to read the number. If you have a seal out they are easy to measure if you have calipers.

Once you have the numbers there are a few shops around that can cross reference them for you. Try Janine at Daytona or Roland at Western, they have been around long enough they probably know how to look them up by dimension in the price list. If that doesn't work PM me and I will see what I can find out.

I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for all your help Ron, much appreciated  I've yet to pull the old leaking seals out but will before springtime and take a few notes on part numbers, I found a parts catalog for a european 99 with a fork seal part # 3BN-23145-00. the 95 U.S model is 43F-23145-10-00. the five digit # is the same so I'm thinking they'll probably work. I'm really enjoying all those great photo's you have on your homepage, great stuff !

Hi Pursang:

Don't count on the Yamaha part number. The five digit only indicates that it is a fork seal and not the dimensions. The three digit prefix indicates the model the part fitswhich you can see are different. I don't know about Yamaha part descriptions but Honda used to include the seal dimension in the part description. Look at the description to see if it is there. Often spaces and dashes are eliminated.

Older Honda seal numbers included the dimensions in a "logical" part number format which made life easy. Some web research should find some cross reference information. Many suspension tuners use only Honda seals as they seem to perform best. In the old days I used to just match them up out of the part bins:D

HI Pursang:

I can only guess that the bike has 41 mm forks and the seal holder is 53 mm based on the number so a fork seal with ID 41 and OD 53. As far as the depth of the seal I have no idea. I wuuld run those numbers by a Yamaha dealer and see if they can cross reference or a bearing and seal supplier.

You should be able to verify the size with a set of calipers. Check out this link for seals:

Sorry I can't be more help.....otg

Well here they are, 1995 XT600E Fork Seals. not exactly like the 99s I won't have any room left to run the original dust swipers and I'll have to make a spacer between the seal and the spring clip. but they should work. my fork boots are in good shape maby running without swipers won't matter. the numbers on the seal.

As seen above the new seal for a 95 XT600 is 2mm taller. by omitting the large washer that sits below the seal the taller seal along with it's swiper will fit. I used the washer to install the upper bushing first then removed it to install the seal and swiper. I wonder how many other XT owners are running into this problem of the taller seal, since the part number is the same for 1991 to 2002 XT600s.
