,,,but first a pic. that should've been in the last post.
Here's Dave seemingly taking a nap on our way back to the not so luxury Panamint Springs Resort after a day in the dirt.
Time to aim for home. Heres some pics from along the way.
theres got to be a good punchline here somewhere.
though the sign promised fossils and rock (seems there's only one), there wasn't a KLR in sight.. What caught my eye was the wood structure plastered with bleached white skulls.. Am now thinking the advertised turquoise exists inside the barbed wire protected yard, as the color of paint only.. With the White House clearly visible in the background (ok, perhaps not the "White House") I was surprised there wasn't crowds of people.
Quite chilly through the John Day area with roadside snow chilling the air but the riding was terrific under stellar skies!
Morning pond ice.
just north of Wilbur Wa. after a pint o Irish Death and an appropriatly greasy meal at Constantines Alibi Tavern. (where I stop every time when in Wilbur)
One of my favorite shots! Taken while on the fly, like most of theses scenery shots.
The "meal" for this trips last night was,, noodles and beer with the noodles filling the guts and the beer filling the soul.. Ahhh, what a great ride.
A morning apre coffee pic. before heading out on the last ride of the trip.
not the best pana. shot along the road from tonasket after great street tacos aimed towards loomis and the nighthawk border crossing. (where you should NOT try to cross into canada with a stick)
Back home on April fools day, some ten thousand km's later and splatted with almost as many bugs with baja mud still glued to the box.
(and still in Jan of 2020, tenacious stuff!)
The rear tire is good, the front will be changed as will the oil and filters. Then time to boogie again.
Did a sidetrip in may to Summerland traversing over and thru Douglas Lake cattle co. along penask lk road to under the Coq. to headwaters and on thru to Bummerland.. Very scenic route and takes about the same time as the boring paved route, with essentially nil traffic.. The exception at least on this day was horse traffic, and they simply refuse to stand and pose for a pic. waaay to curious if not down right pushy.
a panorama before photo editing, in this case the end result didn't really work. . Had to shoot fast as the buggers were persistently trying to rip any and all of the bags open!
May also brought on a "Ged ride" around the sun peaks area.. Heres a pic. of him using his gps enabled finger to show the right direction though in apparent disagreement with the 5 ton detour sign.
And now it is June.
Floyd, Stu and Russ ,our token amarican have a diffrent starting route and have a three day headstart on Mark and myself, no biggee well catch them in no time!
A photo time stamp says June 4 was the launch date with a lofty goal of Hazelton on day 1 with as much dirt as possible along the way.. Goal acheived at well over 1000kms and arriving before dark! (always stay at the Robbers Roost, where you as a rider will receive a free beer)
Minutes after starting day 2 is the real start of the trip at the beggining of the Stuart Cassiar.
It's been proven impossible to get a pic. of Mark without a grin on his face. . And I've now travelled, or very soon will have, to the ends of our north and south americas with him. Terrific guy (and the others!) to travel with.
in Hazelton
Jade "City" from that reality TV show along the Stuart Cassiar, or as Mark sees it,, free coffee!
we chose to do the in and out to telegraph creek on our trek northward.. This spot )though the pic. can't properly show it), is situated along a spine of rock and is precipitous down each side mere feet (like 5 0r 6) along each side. one of the most scenic parts of the ride to telegraph cr.
our side of the road in Dease Lake camp spot.
Watson Lake sign posts, the 2nd best sign post location in the Yukon.. Keno is way more scenic and rates a zero on the touristy scale! the watson location ranks a 10.
After fueling our bellies and bikes for the over 800km needed, we were off for the Nahanni Range/Cantung rd and the out n back into Tungsten.
We were stopped for road work for a few minutes, long enuf for the flag lady to take our pic.
grinning as always and really happy to be doing this bucket list ride.
on arriving at Tungsten well after 11pm, the do not enter, do not pass, gate we had heard of was open.. Though the large steel pipe gate was wide open there were no visible signs that said do not pass go (they were on the face of the gate facing into the bush, so unfortunately we couldn't
read them), So we rode right on past it and the mine site right on thru to the hot springs located on the north(ish) side of the mine.. It was tempting to camp right there as noone was around but we'd be on the wrong side of that very large gate and in the morning it may be closed and that would/could be bad.
with rain beginning to fall we rode a few k back through the minsite towards watson lake and camped beside the river, great campspot with incredible views.
Well after midnight with camp all set up just before it got more serious about raining it was time for a "wahoo we made it!" beer.. In the morning a fresh layer of snow had fallen perhaps only hundreds of feet above us on the mountains.
Mark slept in til around 10 while I wandered around taking pics., like an honest 100 of them! We had covered the better part of three thousand kms in 3 days His sleep in was well deserved.
here's around 7 of the 100 or more pics.
That's enuf for today my butt's getting sore.. Next segment has us as a group of 5 in Dawson City all changing tires then, headed for the end of the road.
thx fer lookin.
