I guarantee the 530 stock stator cannot power HID lights. Halogen would be ok.

i had no dr 650 to pull my bike but i did keep the bike running . i will check the spark plug cap thanks for that

FYI all you Kattoom guys, I have an 08 530 EXC R and put on a Safari Tank from Just Gas Tanks . com, a bit spendy $450, bu no issues, with fan, and no rad shrouds required, tank has built in shrouds, capacity of 15,5 L is really nice too.

This is the bike setup with homemade rear rack, homemade Pogies ( handguards to keep hands dry and warm away from wind and rain) made from crazy carpet snow slider plastic from Cdn Tire cut and zip tie onto handguards for winter!

Shrouds part of the tank, USD, check their website for cost, I think they changed the pricing.

Safari tanks are made in Australia. 15.5 L is a nice size too!:tup:

new safari tank is on its way i am unclear as to how many klms i will get out of a 15ltank.i was having a problem with my bike after i removed all the pollution control crap off i diverted my air intake lines down below the carb i beleive this was my problem for the bike sputtering when going through water . i am going to try and re-route the lines so they are under the seat.anyone else have a suggestion.?

You should get around 50 mpg, thats around 300KM

Take a look at xc model to see the proper routing, theres also a good blog on thumpertalk for desmogging 450 / 530 procedure, complete with pix.:clap:

Hey Claw,

How did that 15.5L tank from Safari work out for you? I'm in Vic and on a new 450 as well - that tank looks about right for our local distances etc.

Ireceivedthe the tank inthe mail the other day i havent put it on yet buy it looks great !!! i will take a picture and post it when i get one.i think it should do the trick i hate packing x-tragas when going into the back country.:hb:if you do any trail riding i do recomend you put the auxilary cooling fan on.cheers

A couple questions -

What did you get hit for import tax on the tank? I see their listed for around $350USD currently.

Also, what gearing did you settle on? I heard that going down to a 13 front can cause clearance issues and it was reccomended that I stick with the 15 front and go with a 52 rear - I think I saw an earlier post where someone went 14/50 as well

Looking forward to seeing that tank on your bike - if you head over to the loghouse in the next couple weeks, perhaps I could swing by for a peek. :hb:

Thanks for the tip on the fan, I'm certianly planning to hit the singles, still running it on the fire and logging roads as I'm not set up yet.

So I will try try to load some pictures but i can only do one at a time.? so what i have done to my bike is front 14 rear 50 you need to get a spare link or new chain. new e,e seat'cooling fan 'flatland skid pan'exhust pipe guard'rear cargo rack'jd jetting kitand safari 15.5l tank .so the bike is set up for my riding 70off road 30 on,you may want to go to the 52 rear if your doing a lot of trail riding.when I tried to do a bit of off road riding bike started to over heatyou will need the fan when you get into the trails.:tup:next thing is put on a new tire i bought a pirelli mc69r mt21 unclear how this tire will work????? soon to find out

Hey Claw,

Sounds like you've got my "bike budget"all in one bike: 2001 Monty + 2001 DRZ + 2003 VFR= 2008 EXC(Not sure, but would the Van have fit in it too?):mb:

Oh........didn't you also use "Water Wetter" in the rad as the bikes run cooler on it.

Nice pics Claw - I really like the tank.

You mentioned a 52 rear - do you mean a 14/52 or were you referring to my thought of keeping the 15 front?

If your doing trails go 14/52.The tank laned with tax and exchange was $500

'"about the same price as flooreds dr400":mb: . seems to fit well.I was going to get some decals but i was told they would bubble due to the gas fumes ? ifI find some cheap onesI may try them.I hooked up a battery tender plug the other day so you dont have to take the seat bolt out you just pop the air filter cover off and plug in.

Nice one there Daw! Looks good! I've also gotthe safari tank, first one in canada! Fit perfect, Fan compatible!, also relaced the brick seat for an EE tall soft, very nice!

Made a custom aluminum rear rack, and a stainless exhaust turndown to prevent dreaded signal melting.......
