NO problems at all man. Take your time.... I'm thinking of fitting them side boxes on my bike, and maybe switching my burnt up tires for your fresher ones, and hey that GPS would look sharp on my KLR too!! Take your sweet time ol buddy:hb:

Sorry to hear it's still messy, it seems so long ago but only two weeks really. Get well soon and you'll be back on the road before you know it.

We should try and get a few of the boys here to help lift the beer to your mouth, I mean bike into your truck too.

Mica 5:30 and I can be anywhere...at least within five minutes of the library. I'll drop the yougest off for his last tutor session of the year and then he can fend for himself...at least until his mom picks him up.

So where, and when before we hit the white bottom? Weather looks good. Any other takers? I think can I promise it won't be a midnight ride again.

Tonight's ride was another sweet one. The weather played in our favour, although I had a sprinkle on the jaunt home. Warren and I managed about 100 Km's return on the White Bottom FSR. We rode til we hit the impassable Skeena. Amazingly, didn't seem like that much distance was covered. Several good water crossings that weren't there the last time, good for bike cleansing so to speak. A very nice road and offers a few scenic moments, even though I had a camera, I couldn't be bothered to pull it out except once.

I managed to dump the Pig in some mung, Rookie mistake perhaps, shouldn't have geared down in that soup with OEM Dunners (Bald rear). No carnage to the ride, only the pride, and had it upright before the Kodak moment could be administered. Some awfully big looking pawprints, accompanied with a set for the little ones were visible in the mung field. But it was soon that the mung became deeper. The overwhelming joy of barely getting through it was quickly remediated by the notion that it would have to be done again. I had another moment, munging wide on a corner, making friends with some bush to stay upright. Seems I left an impression or evidence that Warren enjoyed.

Now I had the distinct feeling that Warren was overly motivated to capture one of my moments or perhaps an impending faux pas. :spl:

I think you guys are going to have to mount some helmet cams! ...or perhaps maybe I should join you once in a while, eh?!!

OK...I have day passes for Saturday & Sunday - so who's out & about in Kitimat/Terrace?
PS - Sunday looks better for weather - but I'll be out on Saturday somewhere (but not at 6:30am :shock: ) maybe Terrace for late breakfast


...it's going to rain so I can't do the deck! Just need to get the rear wheel balanced & back on the bike tonight (done). New psuedo-knobbies are on (K270's). Apparently I have to scrub them in before I can use them ...so should be good by the time I get to Terrace

Sparklr - if you're fitting the K270's, I found the rear a real @#$%$% to get on. I bent my tyre irons beyond repair. Let me know when so that I (we) can come & watch :). Seriously, I think these were the hardest ever.

Can anyone suggest off road & on road pressures to use for these tyres? (at least as a starting point?)

While writing up yesterdays post, I came to the same conclusion that a helmet cam certainly would negate having to stop for momentous occasions or mishap coverage. The real issue lies with me being overly CHEAP! So, I will resort to modding my econo HD vision capture device with a protective casing to protect its' delicate plastic lens cover. That brings about a query for any of the DSBC sponsors: Can you provide a more fathomable group purchase price?

My Rubbers were acquired noonish yesterday. After yesterdays' escapade I am convinced they need installing on days off. However I cannot locate my Cast Iron weapons (snap only), so I will take up the local shops' offer on loaners and break his.

Word of warning to spectators, this rubber replacement attempt hasn't been accomplished since the early 80's. You will require earplugs and body armour and maintain a safe distance at all times.

As for the weekend, I can only speak for myself (althought Northie committed to a form of "semi-plan"). The idea was to maybe meet at Onion Lake ski trail and ponder from there. I have a Quarter Plan that gets me out of the house at 6:30 and to our A&W for breakie and java, once sufficient lubrication has been achieved I will head out Onion Lake way and explore the area and try to capture a moment with the FSR Land Miners. I know that the time is considered as too EARLY, but I needs to work later and have a few moments of Q time with the family, and wash up the PIG for the upcoming surgery. It's a rain or shine day, no peeking at weather forecasts. Hook up if you will, just get me a rendezvouz time and we can meet up. Anyone is welcome, and should be an easy FSR cruise morning.

Saturday evening is a possibility for me, would have to be apres 6:30 ish though.

As for tire pressures, go with the 21-28 (or somewhere close to the top fill) and heat them up with a nice roadie ride! They seem really soft, perhaps the heat will remove the buttery feel.

I went Solo on Daddy's Day at 7:00, a little jaunt around some trail around Onion Lake and found a little hidden gravel pit campsite. Headed up the Upper Kitimat and scoped out the FSR campsite on the river, quite the nice site, even RV accessible.

Discovered a gate, decided to properly investigate that it was locked. Yup. Elected to avoid the quagmire gate bypass this time and followed another avenue to bypass the obstacle.


That didn't work without Northie to clear brush. My friend the Beaver assisted, but a little camera shy.

So onward in search of Land Miners.


I'm now elevating on some other mainline, stones getting that look that says "Little one, you should turn back, I will soon eat your tire!"

Used my GPBS (Great Boulder Positioning System) to mark the intersection.



This is the end for me, 35 Km deep.



Decided that this was enough and headed home via Weedene and Saunders to Armpit. No Land Miners today, just an adolescent Moosie that tempted me to use its' arse as a bike rack as I rounded a sharp corner. Don't who was more scared at the near miss. Nice morning though, roads were mint. 140 KM FSR/ trail, 30 highway.

I got out Sunday pm ...along Wedeene & back of the airport ...I think I saw your skittish tracks on the ground (nice pics)

New tyres are on (K270). The skinny little front is a bit frightening though on looose pebbles, especiallyin corners (e.g. near rail crossings on Wedeene) and it slips off bigger wet rocks :hr:Not sure if it's me or the tyre - but so far I don't like it. Hope your 3.25 feels better than my 3.00

The rear feels really good, it hops around but also digs in well. I dropped the pressures to about Fr 18-20 & Rr 24-25 for the trail stuff, I had the Front quite a bitlower (~15) but was too squishy.

On road, they seem to hold up well but there is some noise although not excessive (higher pressures ~25/28). No problems in the wet.

We should have a sniff up Mt Elizabeth FSR sometime. Also, Williams Creek at Jackpine Flats is supposed to be an easy run, but I've never gone far up there.

With the weather this week looking crappy and working the weekend kind of throws me into doldrum mode until Sat July 4. So hopefully you all can get out this weekend and entertain me with a ride report of your own. Until then, I will spazz out on the new rubbers. Hopefully July 4th could be fixed for a mini-epic, I'll definitely be going somewhere!

I don't think my tire being fatter or any tire would be much better on that loose pebble. The marginal extra width might help in slop/ sand, but not counting on that either. I think I've managed to conquer the limitations of the PIG and and its' nuances, I'm hoping that these tires or some other will allow me to push the envelope a bit more. As I say that, my back is still complaining of picking up the PIG out of the slop at Whitebottom!

Saturday sounds ok, but I will have to be within cell phone range (or not beout of range forlong) since I'll probably be on-call for a co-worker who wants to take the day off... If that doesn't work I could go on Sunday. How 'bout Red Rose Mine on Sunday?

I'd like to get outthis weekend but the weather, so far, looks awful with only Sunday offering some respite. I'd like to save Red Rose Mine for decent weather - thinking long wet road ride (but if we wait we may never do it!). If weather's sucked in let's try something more local ...any thoughts?

You're right. I wouldn't want to be cold & soggy and miss the view due to rain & low clouds. This one would be better suited for nicer weather. Perhaps something "local" on Sunday?
