Anyone on the Lower Mainland looking to travel together Friday? I am looking at 1, 2 or 3 PM Ferrrie from Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay, unless there is a better way from North Vancouver. I have not done Orca Run before, and am looking for travel partner. Respond to email to VPN, and I will follow up.

Regards,
Wayne

Nope swartz bay is probably the best way to go, you could go from nanimo however that would be about 1.5- 2 hours to get to the orca, where as from swartZ bay it should be around an hour ish. So depending on Vancouver traffic and stuff . Either way is good IMO. More details will be PM or emailed ( right buck ?) This is to keep the location private i think.

Another question about dropping in on Saturday morning ... What would be to best time to meet a good handfull of you before you run off to get dirty? Again too, is this at Koksila campsite? or other?

Thanks,
Ken, you can drop by anytime during the day for a visit. Best time is between 8;00 and 9;00 when the mob leaves. But a few of us hang out all day holding down the fort. Same campsite, just past Koksilah on the river.. I sent you directions.

Edit.. as posted earlier.. an info package will be emailed to all entrants by Kiwi over the next few days. Watch for it in your email.

Please check for further updates on the INFORMATION thread.

If you're in North Van Horseshoe bay to Departure bay is the way to go. Travel south is far more entertaining on this side than through the big smoke. The Pat bay hwy in Vic also adds considerable distance. Nanaimo to Shawnigan is about an hour.

Be happy, Chris

Hey you Cowichan valley riders.

The thought is being passed around to start a dual sport club here in and around Duncan. PM me if you're interested.

Be happy, Chris

Sorry, bad etiquette, just trying to gauge interest. Was planning on contacting local moderators . Idea just popped into my head and I acted. Again sorry...

Be happy, Chris

:hijacked

If you want to start another club dont you think you should...........

Start a new thread instead of Hijacking this one?

DSBC is already registered as a not for profit, Im not sure if using the DSBC site to start another NFP is proper etiquette without contacting the local moderators first.

Do not reply in this thread ORCA RUN ONLY

I hope this isn't hijacking... I'm looking to get a ride together in Nanaimo on Thurday afternoon, as a warm-up for Orca. A couple of us from Coquitlam are heading over on Thursday to play ahead of time. We will be meeting at 2pm at the Cassidy Inn on the island hwy. Come one come all!

Routes to campsite

Routes to campsite

Campsite address will be emailed to you directly. Remember to keep noise and speed down when approaching the location. Here are general directions:

Take the ferry to Swartz Bay.

By RV or DSBC Bus

Take Highway 17 south, right on Mackenzie Ave, then right on Highway 1, up the Malahat, left on South Shawnigan Lake Rd, left on West Shawnigan Lake Rd, finally left on Renfrew Rd about 8 km to the Campsite. It will be marked with an Orca sign.

By Motorcycle... (thanks to Submann)
We have a twisty route to ride to the campsite..

It will take you through the back roads of Saanich and the Highlands over to Highway1 at Goldstream Park then north to Shawnigan Lake.

Directions:

Exit ferry, get in right lane.
Take first exit right onto Wain Rd.
Stop sign - turn left onto West Saanich Rd.
Drive into Brentwood to traffic light (sorry) and turn right onto Wallace drive.
Turn right onto Willis Pt. Rd.
Turn Left onto Ross Durance Rd.
It becomes Millstream Lake Rd.
Stop sign - Turn right (still Millstream Lake Rd.)
Stop sign - Turn left onto Millstream Rd.
Turn right onto Finlayson Arm Rd.
Use caution, super twisty and the road surface degrades with steep downhill switchbacks
You pop out in Goldstream Park
Stop sign - Turn right onto Trans Canada highway
Turn Left onto Shawnigan Lake Rd.
At bottom of hill turn left onto West Shawnigan Lake Rd.
Turn left onto Renfrew Rd.
Keep right toward Koksilah Park.
Road turns to gravel
Arrive Sunny Daze Campsite on right

I didn't put distances on here as that would take ALL the fun out of it. Hopefully we can post the GPS files for download.

Sorry but I did route it past one traffic light. We only turn right there so it's just a glancing blow.

When you arrive at the campsite, find a spot to set up away from the central area (plenty of room, 10 acres), then locate the information table, sign in, get your t-shirt, dinner and raffle tickets.

There will be a second waiver to sign provided by the logging company on whose land we ride.

Note, this all takes time.. if there is a lineup and you are impatient, then come back later. Registration opens mid afternoon on Friday.

Just wanted to poke my nose in here and say hi. My gf and I are heading over from the mainland on Friday to take part in our first Orca run. We're both new to the dualsport world but very excited to join in on this!

Looking forward to meeting you all :)

BMW Gal just informed us of an updated menu for Saturday nights dinner!

Quote..

Ok, due to the look on Mike's face on Sunday I have changed the menu... lol. Azam will be making us a lovely meal of Baron of Beef Roast carved right in front of us, rustic mashed potatoes, baby carrots, fresh green beans, buns, and chocolate cake with a berry compote for dessert. And he said that any vegetarians can just ask for anything from his menu.

Does this sound good? :)

All information regarding the campground, directions to the campground, and route information (roll charts and GPS tracks) have been emailed out... in a total of 4 emails.
You may not have received the emails due to: illegible writing or failure to provide an email address.

Note: Route sheets will NOT be available on site.
It is YOUR responsibility to print out/download the route(s) you need. If you are unsure of what route you will be riding, print/download all.

Heading to the Island for the Orca run (woo hoo !) on (this) Friday the 13th (Ooh - belly scelly !) from Van. Thinking of catching the 2:00 or 3:00 pm ferry from Tsawwassen. I'll then be following the "twisty route" to the campground, with a possible diversion (once the campground has been identified) to Duncan Motorsports/KickStart Coffee for the pre-ride slide show, and dual-sporting stories.

Any other DSBC folk care to join me for (some/all of) the journey ?

I'll be heading over first thing on the icebreaker (morning ferry) so I won't join you for that part. I'm just figurin on the C route though, so how 'bout that? "They" say you can just double it back after lunch to avoid the slab so I'm up for that...and any other diversions (C+ stuff anywhere?)
Did you decide what bike yer bringin?

Up for the ride back on Sunday too.

Also for anyone curious I'll be packin a fleet of Giant Loop bags for your scrutiny in support of two Giant Loop dealers that are sponsors of this event: Island BMW and Duncan Motorsports.

You can check them out, poke em', kick em (they like that) mount 'em on your bike to see how they fit, whatever you want. Look for the orange brutalized MOD F8 to find me and feel free to bug me!

I'll also have (fingers crossed) the brand new Diablo tank bags. The first shipment into Canada! It's the minimalist little brother to the Fandango.

Lookin forward to it!

Dave
