With 20 years of riding under your belt I think the 690 would be a good bike to start your off road career.... I sat on one at the bike show and it seemed to be a couple inches lower at the seat than my 640 and lower than just about all the other enduro class bikes {X challenge, Husky 610, DR 400, ect.}.... Also it has a 4 position switchable mapping under the seat so you can change the power characteristics of the motor with the flick of a switch....
KTM is coming out with some hard boxes + framework as well as a larger fuel tank if you wanted to use the bike for Adventure touring....
