The plan is to meet up at the Old Settle Pub in Harrison Hot Springs this Sunday, August 11, at 10:00Am (the Old Settler is on the right side of the main road into HHS right at the village). We'll ride up the east side of Harrison Lake and go over Kookipi to Keefers and then up the west side of the Fraser to Lytton where we'll cross on the traction ferry and have lunch. After lunch we'll ride up hwy 1 for about 15 km to the Nicomen FSR and take it back to Boston Bar. From Boston Bar we'll return via hwy 1, although if some people want to return via Kookipi that's perfectly OK.

This will be a long ride (although not as long as the one we did last week - according to my GPS I rode 666 km last Sunday) and big bike/newbie friendly. There is some very picturesque scenery on this route so we'll make photo op stops along the way - bring your cameras.

The longest leg without gas is from the Old Settler to Lytton, a distance of about 150 km.

There are several short but rough sections on Kookipi but we'll stop and group up at them and make sure everyone gets through OK. Should be a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to another great group of riders like we had last week.

I would love to go, but I am working.

P.S.

I would rather be riding.

You can count me in John. I just got an oversized pair of kenda 50/50's mounted that rub a bit; I got to wear them down some how. Also I vote for the kookipi since I can only maintain 90kph :)

You want to be careful of the clearance between the tire and your swingarm housing. When the bike is stationary it might look like you have a quarter of an inch or so of clearance but when you are traveling at higher speeds centrifugal force will cause the tire to expand and rub against the housing. This will cause the housing to be eroded. I find it a little concerning that your bike will only maintain 90kph because it should be able to go over 100 kph on the level and this indicates to me that it is probably rubbing against the swingarm. As strange as it might seem the metal part that your tire is rubbing against will wear down before the tire does because the tire picks up bits of sand that act as an abrasive. Bottom line is your tires should not rub against anything at any speed and if they do you need to change them immediately.

Not to worry, even with my old stock tire, which made 10,000km (discontinued) my little donkey only liked to do 90, it would do 105kph but I felt guilty. I understand where your coming from abut the metal wearing faster than the tire, the tire rotates, the metal is constantly rubbed. Fortunately it's just the new tire hairs whipping on the mud flap protecting the shock, and the chain guard which the mechanic removed. I feel it will be fine, besides, I have four afternoons to find out :)

I am restricted to 90 for the most part as well. The bike will do 120-125 on flat ground but you are near destroying it so I don't do it much. 80-90 feels and sounds like the highway limit, any beyond is very uncomfortable and fatiguing. The DR has very close ratios compared to modern bikes so there is no low first in the bush and still do 140 on the highway thing going on, probably much the same with a 230L.

You could always do a big smokey burnout in front of the shop after work tomorrow, that might ease your clearance issues!!!!! ;)

Sounds like another great ride. Unfortunately I'm already committed to going to the Loose Screw.

Lol, the way this tire slides around I don't think a smoke show would be too hard.

Are you going to make it out for this one?

I am absolutely dying to go on a ride, something other than to work and home! Chances are slim to none that i will be able to go. I think I might have to wait a few years for the littlest one to get older so my wife can have a break.
I will make the hint though and take my lumps, you never know.

And yes those 270's are very slippery! Good for your super moto rear slides though!

Ill be riding down to Port Angeles this weekend for some jet boat racing. May come back to tag along depending on how things go. Ill be there 1000 sharp if so.

Hey John, sounds like another great scenic tour. Count me in.

BTW - my DOT nobbies really don't like asphalt so I will be returning via Kookipi

I"ll be riding out from Surrey - let me know if anyone would like to meetup for the ride out to Harrison.

I'm thinking Fraser Hwy to 56th, then Harris Rd to R11 & meetup with Danielcan. Anywhere along the way works for me.

I'll be riding through langley about 8:30. I've met up with people at the Mcdonalds on the corner of the Bypass and Fraser Hwy, it's a good place to meet. I like to continue on the Bypass to 56th st and ride out to Hwy 11 via Harris road. Usually get to the Mission bridge about 9:00 using this route. If it's OK with everyone I'd like to meet up with the Langely people at the McDonalds and the Mission people on the Lougheed right after it hooks up with the Mission bridge exit (I think it's called Glasgow Ave). Does leaving McDonalds at 8:30 and meeting the others at Lougheed and Glasgow Avenue at 9:00 work for everybody?
