I find this quite an amusing thread. It really shows how passionate and opinionated people can become about motorcycles.

There is no doubtthat the Bimmer 450 will perform better on the road than aCRF230. I have spent a lot of hours on small Honda fourstrokes and they are great bikes but they are not in the same league as the X-cross.

My Sherco "race bike" has served me well on trips to Saltspring, Sechelt and Squamish, all considerably greater than 50 km trips. When it comes to the ugly "A" sections I tackle them withouthesitation as my "race bike" isgreatwhen it is in it's element. When it gets really ugly, I leave my big Sherco at home and take out it's little brother, the Sherco 2.9 trials which doesn't even have a seat. If I could afford it I would have a big bike for serious adventures. The point is, there is so much riding to do, so many great bikes to enjoy, why not try as many different aspects as you can and forget searching for the perfect can do everything bike, that's like playing golf with one club in the bag:).

Every bike is a compromise and I have yet to find the perfect bike after 40 years of searching but I enjoyed riding every bike I have owned and that includes my Suzuki 80 Trail Ilogged 10,000 MILES on when I was a kid! I thought it was the perfect dual sport bike and it handled Kimberley to Nelson over Grey Creek back in 1967 without a problem.

Now lets take a look at this bike

Keyed ignition, Kick start, Comfy seat, Low seat hieght, Excelent gas mileage, Tube swing arm, Dual Sprocets, Low power output for longevity, Knobbie tires, Travel rack, Good ol drum brakes so we dont have to worry about the juice, Air cooled engine worked for VW. The chrome gas tank (you know what they say, "if it dont go chrome it")

Shit this may be the perfect Dual Sport Bike for you Tibarus, Has everything you want, you never mentioned suspension so I can only assume it doesnt matter, cause this bike does not have any. Who needs 50 hp, I bet this bike even has points (Hey T are you old enough to have owned a bike with points?)

Nice research Mud, brings back memories:tup:

It's not meant for that purpose!

It is not a dual sport motorcycle!

It is and enduro race machine that can legally cross roads to link trails.

I guess for you they should have kept the lights off.

Hey T,

Read this over and over until you understand it.

Generally if your looking for a new bike you should look at a bunch of them and weigh the pros and cons of each in relation to their intended purpose and your type/style of riding. Going on a public forum and slagging a bike that doesn't work for you is ridiculous. Dualsporting is all about comprimise, and bikes like the 450X, KTM EXC, etc are at an extreme end of that comprimise. If you want a middle of the road(pun intended) bike, then the models for you are: KLR 650, DR650, perhaps even a DRZ400.

ps- a keyed ignition can be installed in about 30mins. Baja Designs sells one for $30.

- You could ride the 450X to Kelowna, just throw on a larger front sprocket/smaller rear and off you go. It's a light bike so the wind will wear you out and toss you around, and your ass will hurt from the narrow seat, but you'll get there.

Best of luck finding a bike your happy with.

You guys are hilarious you know that? You all claim to be well informed riders but when someone comes up with valid points of interest against a certain bike you happen to like, you all get hyper defensive and in some cases incredibly rude.

Go on, defend your G450X to it's death, I'll hang back on my more reliable, cheaper and lower maintenance WR250R whilst I cruise faster and longer than all of you and I'll try not to laugh when I see you loading your bike into a truck to get it somewhere that is further away than a 70-80 kph top cruising speed allows you to get to with in a reasonable amount of time.

Lemme know how your G450X is running at the 50 000 km mark, if it is still running by then.

Oh, and for the record, I'm not slagging the bike because it doesn't meet what I want in a bike, I'm slagging it because it could have been A LOT better, I'm slagging it because it doesn't meet my opinion of BMW's manufacturing excelence.

Wow. Who defended the 450X? All we did was point out that it is a good bike for it's :shock:INTENDED :shock:purpose.

WR250R eh? Interesting choice. I can't imagine that bike being much better than a 450X on the road. Let us know how it goes for you.

No I want the last word!

You came in with the negative attitude slamming bikes right off the start. You would have had the same response no matter which bike you picked on. As a matter of fact there is not a single person who posted in this thread who owns a BMW 450X...

Also I have never seen anyone load a bike in/out of a truck on any of our rides, and we often have rides with 20 or more people. We're just defenders of common sense and common courtesy.

Now go play on your bike. But don't complain that it doesn't have 50 Hp and Ohlins suspension. :hb:

I think this is a case of agree to disagree. I hate seeing something get so heated when all we are in here is to have some fun and enjoy what the board has to offer. :(

I have one on loan from a friend for a few weeks, I'm finding it to be 10 times the bike that the G450X is, better on the throttle responce, nicer suspension, better on the highway, more agressive styling, EVERYTHING about this bike is better and more appealing than the G450X.

Also, for the record. Some of you seem to think I haven't done my research before posting what I did, I'm sorry to inform all of you, I've been researching this for about 2 years now, taken MANY different bikes out for test rides INCLUDING the G450X. I was wholly unimpressed with the G450X, sure it's got a lot of HP and nice shocks, but yeah... thats about ALL it has.

T Good choice. Glad you finally decided on a bike, pretty fast too. When do you want to go riding.

Being an old guy I like to transport my bike to the riding areas when possible, still I manage to put 15000 km per year on the clock.

Its not snowing yet so lets go have some fun.

What you said (look up)

What we hear

"Oh I'm new here. Blah blah blah. Oh I hate this bike is sucks. Blah blah blah. I'm so smart, I use the Internet. Blah blah blah

Wanna be my friend and ride together? You on your sucky bike and me on my well researched super duper bike?"

Want to see the best dualsport bike? Look at all the different rides in this photo. And we all made it there and back. And no one said the other person's bike sucked.

Excuse me, but please, try to avoid putting words I never said into my mouth. I never once said any one person's bike sucked, I don't do that sort of thing. I was mearly pointing out that the G450X is a bit of a let down for those wanting to get into dual sport riding and want to stay with BMW.

What point are you trying to get at Dorky? Is your post supposed to be some form of ridicule against furries?

No ridicule intended. I am laughing at a bunch of grown, experienced dualsport motorcyclists arguing with a young fellow who is sitting at home in fuzzy jammies :).

I'll step out now but I wanted everyone to have a better understanding of where things are at.
