See, Kawasaki DOES listen to the people!!!! Finally, black after all these years. Know if they would have put a black tank on there, they'd have something. I bet you they'll make more money next year of selling plastic kits then actual KLRs. If you have stocks in Krylon Infusion, might be a good time to sell........

Very nice colour scheme.

It's hard not to applaud a company that continues to milk profits from aproduct that isalmost 25 years old.

Its about time Kawi upgradedand used the new 650R paralell twin in the KLR. Compact motor with 75 hp. Reliable and low maintenance. The KLR II.

I think Buck meant if they were to use the 650 twin (same as in the new ninja I think....)

I love Kawi's....but this bike and the Concours just make me LOL....hasn't changed one bit in 20+ years.

It means two things really, the bike was so good it the 80's it was ahead of it's time, or the people that buy KLR's could care less about the latest and greatest out there.

The DR650 is another one, Virtually unchaged...

....if ain't Broke....don't Fix it....:hb:

Check out the KLE500 and the KLV1000. They are similar to the KLR650 but both feature twins. Unfortunately, they don't market them in Canada.

I wish I could milk something in my business for 25 years:D How did Kawasaki get away with that anyway:shock: At the end of every season they must be counting their money and laughing. I think the 450 to 500 kilometer range and fun looks just keep selling this bike year after year. Sucked me and my brother into buying one this year, but we can't complain. The KLR is like that little child that is not perfect but you love them because they are your child. It is that kind of feeling. The more I ride this bike, the more fun I have.

I think it's a case of understanding your market. There is a big demographic of people that don't want to take their bikes in for maintenance and get :mi:. People that want an inexpensive simple bike that can be maintained for the most part on the trail. People that know that most of the new technology is just going to complicate things for little in return.

Given that though, I think they could stick to the basic foundation but fix the doohickey, add the most popular after market add ons, and make it look more aggressive like the f650 Dakar. Maybe lighten it up a bit too if it doesn't complicate it or add big cost.

Push themselves as a no nonsense ready to hit the trails dualsport. The plastic skid plate hurts that alot. Ofcourse I use the term "trails" loosely.;)

The KLR is basically a bike in a starter kit format. As is it works great for a lot of people. Others start with the "kit" and start to make it the bike they want. More street oriented, or motard, more adventure touring, or more dirt. Change the tires, pipe, add luggage, change the gearing, etc. I think it's a great platform to modify.

I'm glad they left the doohickey. I had to open up the engine to do that and having never attempted that sort of engine surgery, it was a major achievement. It gave me the confidence to try all the other maintenance/repairs etc.

I feel the same way as you both. I don't want to be :mi: by the dealers for maintenance and it is a great bike to play around and modify without needing a degree in electronics. Just guessing by the amount of KLR's sold in Salmon Arm this year alone, I think they must be selling them out year after year.

BTW Tomcycle, I hope that is not you falling of the bike in mid air:D
