Do you like to hike?

Do you know how to use your gps?

We need you then:ted:

This is a crasy idea that Neil and Myself (along with a lot of others) think that it is possible to ride from Clear Creek Hot Springs to the Spuzzum FSR. Neil and myself hiked this a couple of years ago and got within 800 metres of the Spuzzum FSR, the growth was too thick and the daylight was running out. The route we hiked seem like a huge project to make ridable. So the idea faded.

Now we have Google Earth with much higher definition imagery and the dream is alive again. Just think of it Leave Harrison ride up to Clear Creek Hotsprings then come down Spuzzum FSR, a quick jump down the highway to American Creek FSR coming out just East of Agassi on Ruby Creek FSR. Nice loop that wouldnt take two days to ride.

Neil will be posting more of the details of where we have to go, for now I have the basics

Its about 2 kms from the known end of Supzzum FSR to Clear Creek

Elevation change of about 600 feet to the known end of Clear Creek FSR

Maximum elevation of 3000 feet (means this route will open early in the year)

Whats needed to get started

We need a couple of good hikers with good sence of direction, using a gps will help a lot.

We need to walk the trail first to see how much work will be required to make it ridable

We have some help already but the more the merrier.

We will not be doing any trail work just marking for future use.

First work party Saturday October 10

The Bus will be going to Spuzzum FSR leaving Surrey 7am sharp

Anyone interested out there just post or PM

CB do you have an GSMR radio? If not I have a couple on the bus and we should meet before we head up

We still need at least one more person for the clear creek side

I have a pair of radios that I think are GMRS, if that's what you mean. Regardless, it would probably be smart to meet up beforehand to make sure that they work together.

Where in Surrey are you? If you're not too far from the highway then I'll just be at your place by 7; otherwise maybe there's a place along the highway we could meet.

Before I commit my body, my mind is game to go! Can anyone compare the road from the East Harrison to the end of the Clear Creek Road with the East Harrison to Nahatlatch River?

Bill

You'll be fine, Bill. We used to run the nubie ride to the hotsprings.

Lots of cross-ditches, a couple of (virtually dry) water crossings and one manageable wash-out. People are still taking their trucks & tent trailers to the hotsprings.

The challenge will be the hiking. But you're super-fit!

The other question is; did anyone order a sunny day?

The hiking: well it’s been 14 years since the Grand Canyon and The West Coast Trail.

I’m in.

Excellent, look forward to meeting you and Cheeseburger in the middle.

So the plan is for the bus to be atPrest road to pickup MikeO and Neil at 7:50.NO stopping for breakfast so we can get in as much daylight hiking as possible. Takes about 45 mins to Spuzzum and another 30-40 minutes to get to the end. Means we should be on the hiking trail about 9:30. Bill and Cheeseburger, you able to make it up to the other side by that time? GRMS Channel 20 is what we usually talk on. Any case we'll keep trying you about every 10 minutes or so.

Tom,

I looked at this the year after the bridge went out. You might want to talk to Hydro. They drilled a few geothermal exploration holes up on the saddle, and then capped them. I was at one of them when we could still access from the bridge side (past clear creek)

This is totally doable, I would think a light two stroke could get through. But its been a while.....

Good luck, if I still lived down on the North shore I would be all over this.

Another cool trail is the McGilvery (?) trail, connecting Bralorne to Darcy.

Will there be room for one more if I'm at Prest Rd?

Guys, I'm going to have to cancel. My wife is going into surgery this evening so my weekend is suddenly spoken for. Sorry, I know it's a bit last-minute.

FBomb, would you be willing to take my spot approaching the hike from the Clear Creek side with Bill?

Sorry I can't make it I like your plan.

Just whated to say make sure you have the same radios the older ones are FRS And not very good with a hill beteen you. the new ones are GMR and can be good for up 10-14 miles.

Do let us know what you find.

It looks like I should meet Tom at Prest Rd and pick up a radio and carry on to Clear Ck etc with Bill, so I would be at the Horn of Plenty Cafe at the corner in Agassiz by 7:30-ish. Okay with you, Bill? I had better ask where Bill is coming from and if he should meet us at Prest Rd. We will probably have to burn a rag for Clear Ck to be of any use to this expedition.
