Now we are half way into the trip lets take a look at how the equipment is holding out

KTM Section

Claude has leaky fork seal

Darren also has a leaky fork seal

Lost license place holder and got a little hot on the beach melted some plastic

Plate and signals didnt make the trip

This is the second tire for Greg

Daves epoxy solution for the tank bag magnets did not cut it, the black disc on the tank

Darren lost his kick starter, sez he is going to claim warranty:)

Gregs tank bag solution didnt hold up

BMW Section

Guy has lost the mount and bolts for the skidplate

I lost a bolt for the fork protector

If you look closely you will see I painted the countershaft bolt and gear, this is to make it ez to see if it is coming loose. you will notice the bolt and gear are in the right position but the washer has spun

Very happy with the performance of the Mitas Dakar

Another aftermarket bolt missing, was a nylock too

Honda Section

Leedam lost a headlight

Husky Section

no problems to report

Feb 5 2009

Sad day today , half of the trip is over and we are going to start heading North:(Its going to get colder each day from here on.

Got all the bikes cleaned and did maintanance on the bikes, everyone did air filters and oil changes.

Thanks to the Hotel Mar De Cortez they supplied us with all the rags we needed to keep the bikes clean.

In fact most of the bikes look like they are just getting started on a new ride.

Tomorrow is still up in the air, not sure if we are riding to Los Barrilies or go strait to La Paz

Still looking for a place so I can upload pictures, maybe tomorrow.

Tom text Sun Feb 8 2:40

In Mulege now. Broken skies with the odd shower. Still very warm and nice. I am riding on my own as I am dealing with food poisoning today. Getting better but too sick to ride with the others. The guys are riding over to the pacific side than back to here. Waiting for the guys to show up. I expect them here around 5 pm

Long ride tomorrow to Bahia De Los Angeles.. Hope I can go.

Talking to Tom he says that more parts are falling off the bikes too now. Good thing they are on the way home.

Apparently Dave and Leedam had a run in with a would be burglar. Dave woke up in the middle of the night to find someone rummaging in their bags ...Dave shouting and chasing the guy away...Leedam slept through it. Tom says he doesn't think they got anything, cos Dave woke up early enough. Now this is Tom's version of the story..we shall have to wait to here the other part. Not sure where this was either.

Tom and Gang,

Terrific job keeping us updated with pictures. The improvised wheel bearing is unbelievable! Well done with what ever is at hand.

I hope it's smooth sailing from here on in. Good luck sortingout the Baja belly.

all the best,

Paul N.
