now i havent had much to do with a gps unit so i was wondering. To put only bc and alberta on my garmin 250w, would i load your map into mapsource and then highlight only the areas i want to put on the garmin or what would be the proper way to put on my 1 gig sd card. please and thanx for any info.

Highlight the maps you want, and then send them to the SD card. Alberta and BC together are 715MB, and 1867 map tiles. (note, it will take a rather long time to actually load this amount of data to your card. I'd probably restrict myself to the parts of the provinces I was actually likely to visit).

You can load maps a couple of different ways. You can select the maps for areas you think you might need by clicking on the individual map segments with the map select tool in Mapsource, or you can create a route and use the "select maps around route" tool.

I didnt load it on my GPS yet, but i have a general question.
Why is there some blank squares in the northern part of BC? I live in the Williston lake area (my playground for hiking, quading and hopefully soon biking) and exactly there are some blank squares. Are these maps missing from the source you got them from or is it a glitch in the program?
The maps seem to be as good or better then garmins, cause garmin has only 250'000 scale maps north of my place, so this will be a big improvement and if the blank squares could be filled in as well it would be even better.
Most forestry and oil patch roads are not on the maps so would you know how maps could be updated? I tried to record a track on my garmin while driving down the road and then add it to the map (garmin topo) but after few frustrating hours i gave up.
is there a way to integrate tracks in to the maps?

After downloading 122 topomaps, when i went to install it stops at 7 percent with an error message that says. An error occured while trying to rename a file in the destination directory. move file failed: code2. The system cannot find the specified file.

If you send me the square numbers you want, I can send you the source files, and you could compile them yourself (and send me back the IMGs). I've started work on a way that should speed up the compile time, but I'm heading in to exams right now, so it could be a while.

The last download worked thanx. i am now downloading the updates.I have read that it is faster to put the topo maps on the sd card with a card reader.How exactly would i send to the card reader if i only wanted bc and alberta.Do i use mapsource to send to sd card? Create a mapset, in Mapsource, with all the maps you want, save that as a Mapsource mapset, send that to the SD card, or directly to your GPS (if the card is loaded in the unit.

I was going to make a mapset just for vancouver island. It is 77 maps. 28.2 mb. but when i save as a gdb file it is only 6 kb. what type of file do i save as to send to sd card through card reader. my choices are .gdb, .mps or .txt?

I did manage to just put card in my garmin and in mapsource sent to device and chose to the card. Although Ibycus maps are very good. I chose topo canada v2 because it had my backroads named where as the other one just says alley. Thanx again for all peoples help.

You can put both maps in your GPS (or more). I have mapsets with Ibycus, Topo Canada, City Navigator v.7 and City Navigator 2008 all loaded to the GPS. When you create the mapset, in Mapsource, pick the map segments you want from Ibycus, then select Topo Canada and select the segments you want from there. Save that mapset and upload to the GPS. From the "map info" page on the GPS, select the map product you want to use at any time.
