m what happend? I updated, it took a few hours of downloading then it checked for orphend files removed 800 some orphend files and now when I start mapsource Ibycus half of BC and Alberta is blank?
Is there something else I have to do? Where did all those files go?
... a few hours later.... I restarted my computer to see if that might change something, it sure did...
now MapSource will not start anymore, just comes up with an error message "there is a problem with this GARMIN application." etc.
Click OK and it just shuts down again. Tried upgrading MapSource to the newest edition but no change.
Edit again: OK after some googling I installed a program called MapSource Mapset Manager (M3) http://www.malsingmaps.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=25&sid=2d0e279b93c04498eae68d47ef8b29e7
used it to uninstall the Ibycus mapset and now I can at least use Mapsource again.

Sounds like a bunch of the files didn't correctly download (800 sounds about right for the number of orphaned files).
I'd suggest re-running mapupdate.
I'm exausted right now otherwise I'd give more details... Been up all night with my dog. He just had knee surgery.

Yes got it all running now, and thanks for the extra filled in squares in my area.
When these maps are extracted, where are they extracted to? and what name do they have.
I was trying to find them to see if they would work with "Fugawi" but I couldnt find them.
Also the update when downloaded where is it? does it delete itself or is there a file somewhere that i could move to a flashdrive and then use it on my other computer to install the maps without having to wait 3 hours again to download and use up so much of my precious bandwith? I only get 6gb a month so doing this update twice pretty well uses most of my months transfer limit up.

By default, they download to \Program Files\TopoMaps. I doubt Fugawi will be able to read them though.
To transfer to another computer, just copy the files from that directory to a CD/DVD, and then copy to the same location on a new PC, then run "MapUpdate" on the new computer to add the requisite Registry keys.
I now have an ISO version that you can download and burn to a DVD http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/IbycusTopo15iso.zip , at the moment its substantially untested, but should work (seems to work on my PC, but I've yet to have anyone report success (or failure) using it). Worst case scenario, you end up with all the img files burned to a DVD.

Just a heads up... Expect a major update of the BC tiles soon (within the next couple of days). The update should include road names, and is currently processing.

Kinda yes, kinda no.
Yes, in theory with a bit of leg work its possible. On the down side, custom mapping for Magellan units is on much shakier footing than for Garmin units (AFIAK, the only way to do it is using some 'gray market' software), its also probably too technical for the average user to handle.

Well I did it again, I say something does not work then I go and try something else and it works. I guess the regular Windows unzip utility does not like big files like this.
Used Win-Rar and it worked just fine. Burned it to a DVD with Nero. Havent installed it to any computer yet, but when I insert the DVD the License agreement thing pops up so it looks promising.
I'll let you know once I installed it somewhere how it worked.

Hey,
I just released the beta of my new maps, which should be much more resistant to this kind of problem (its caused by the registry entries being present when the index maps aren't).
Anyways, it also has road names in BC, AB and Nova Scotia, and much larger tiles (area wise). You can download it from http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/download1/MapUpdateBeta.exe .
Its still in beta, but I'm fairly sure all the initial bugs have been worked out. If you have an existing install that you might want to go back to, you can rename the \Program Files\TopoMaps directory before installing (all the tiles are new in this version, so you won't see any benefit to keeping it around).
