I have loaded both the Ibycus Topo and the Garmin topo into my 60csx. When I go to my map information page to toogle between Garmin and Ibycus the page is only showing the Ibycus map as available. If I open the menu on the map information page it offers the options of hiding the Ibycus topo or the Garmin topo. For some reason the map selection menu is not displaying the garmin topo as an option??? It looks like other people have had this problem also. Any ideas about what I am not doing correctly?

Really? I haven't seen this one before (no one's reported it to me that I can remember anyways...)

Not that it should make a difference, but what version of my maps are you using?

Does it make a difference if you load only a couple of tiles? (I'm wondering if the listing of tiles will only take x tiles before it stops showing them).

The version of Ibycus is 1.5. I downloaded both topo maps into the default directory for mapsource. Then I selected the maps I wanted to load into my GPS. First I selected the Ibycus maps and then the Garmin maps. I did not name the map set. The maps intermingled with each other in map source - ie when both ibycus and garmin had the same map they would position themselves on the list adjacent to each other but still be identified as to their source. Then I pushed the transfer to gps button. Map source built a map set and then transferred it to the gps.

If I go into the configure maps menu I can see both sets of maps listed. If I turn off on set then the gps shows that set - ie if hide Ibycus is checked then the map will be the Ibycus map.

I have not tried loading a smaller map set due to the time. I will do that if I have to but possibly there is a basic error I am making that will not require reloading the entire mapset again.

More - On page 2 of this string KTMKen apparently had a similiar problem but I am munable to tell how he resolved it.

Before you try reloading, I'd make a backup of the GMAPSUPP.IMG file on your microSD card. That way you won't have to go through the process of rebuilding the entire thing.



Version 2.0beta is much better than 1.5 (includes road names in BC, AB, and NS, and has substantially fewer tiles, so should upload faster)

There is one bug with it though, which will be resolved on the next release, and that is that some of the contour values are out by a factor of 3.28 (feet vs meters problem)

If I understand your problem, and his problem they (seem to be different). The problem he was having is that he would load TopoCanada on to the GPS, and then he'd load my maps (wiping out TopoCanada). The 'trick' is to load them both at the same time.

From what I understand, you've loaded both, but on one screen in the GPS, they both show up (where you can show hide a mapset), but on another (where you turn on and off individual sheets) only one shows up. Is that correct?

Oh, how many map segments/sheets did you load at a time to the GPS? (the limit for the 60CSx is 2025 I think).

Looks like it was about 1550 maps. I think I will try reloading tonight after I get home from a ride. I will upgrade the Ibycus and then try to load Vancouver Island only - which should not take so long.

Was that total (my maps + the Garmin ones) or just the number of tiles for my maps?

That was the total of both maps. It was about 1010 garmin and 534 of yours.

My hosting provider decided to move my website to a new server with no warning to me. As a result, the site will be down for a couple of days while the DNS updates.

Hi,I have been using V2.0 beta and it has been working great. However, I want to upgrade to 2.1 and I'm not sure the best way to procede. Do I have to uninstall the old version and if so how? Do I install to the same folder and write over the top of the old files? I have tried installing the new version but it keeps coming up with an error when I try to load Mapsource. Also, after the new version is installed an error message comes up saying it didn't install correctly, do you want Windows to re-install it for you? I have always said yes to this question, maybe I should have just left it. I am running Vista Home Premium. All my other Garmin maps are in the Garmin folder whereas the Ibycus maps are in Programs/TopoMaps, does this make a difference. Also, the first time I tried loading V2.1 it was defaulted to a new folder /Ibycus Maps/, do the maps have to be loaded in any particular location.

Hi,

Version 2.1 is set up as a seperate map product, so you shouldn't overwrite the old version with it (I did this because I was getting some strange errors with partial installs before, and I wanted to 'start fresh').

I'm not sure why you get the 'didn't install correctly' message from Vista, but I've seen it before. You can safely ignore it.

Location of the files shouldn't matter, as long as you don't put them over top of the old version. If you're getting Mapsource errors, I suggest you load MapsetToolKit (google the URL) to uninstall and sets that are giving you trouble, and then reinstall.

Dale, thanks, that helps alot. However, before I go through the install process, are the changes from Beta 2.0 to 2.1 worth all the hassel. If you don't think the changes are worth it then I won't bother and leave it the way it is and wait for another update in the future. Great job by the way. Regards, Ian

I'm trying to remember the details of the changes in BC... If I recall correctly, they weren't particularly significant. There were some definite changes in other areas of the country (Particularly Ontario and Yukon). I *think* had the latest roads in BC for version 2.0, but I'm not totally sure.

Scratch all that... There was a major change country wide that I totally forgot about.

You'll notice in a number of areas throughout the country that the elevations are *completely* out to lunch (they are out be a factor of 3.28). This has been fixed in 2.1.

I've tried downloading these maps from this site (http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/)but it dosen't seem to work. As soon as i download them or click on the link it instantly opens a window on my computer "WinRAR DIagnostic message" 1- seek eror in the file c:/documments...etc..2- An attempt was made to move the file pointer
before the beginning of the file. The only 3 options i have at the bottom of the smal inside window pop up are, 1- CLOSE, 2- BREAK OPERATION or 3-COPY TO CLIPBOARD. Can you please help me? I am running windows xp and just downloaded Winrar 2 days ago from downloads.com. I also have Nero 7 if this helps. I could really use these maps without breaking the bank and would rather donate to the guy who posted them rather than make Garmin filthy richer. PLEASE HELP! Thanks

I've seen a few people have problems with WinRAR and the big ZIP file (although I don't think that is your exact problem at the moment...)

My suggestion is to try the 'BitTorrent' download (just google ibycus topo torrent, and make sure you have a bit torrent client installed.)

If you need more detailed instructions, just let me know.
