Doh. Looks like I won't be able to make those dates. ;(

I am definitely in for doing this route another time, though.

Franhoser, Strongleftleg, anybody else wanna one-day it as soon as the snow is clear?

Cheers,
Matthew

You let me know when, and I'll try to make it for a one-day.

If I get a new bike by that time I'll be up for a 2 day trip. Can a DRZ make it from the rez gas station at chehailus to the rez station at Pemberton? I seem to remember it was more like 220km between gas stations when stopping at Sloquet.

I'd be up for more side trips too, once we get to Seton Portage there's a whole whack of interesting rides north before hitting Lillooet. But that might add one more day of riding, so maybe too much? Everytime I am in Seton I am a little pressed for time and haven't had the chance to explore off the main roads.

I'll be camping no matter where we stay...Lillooet and immediately below the Tera- something dam where you go through the tunnel has BC hydro campgrounds where they provide free firewood and camping.

Also....since a lot of people will be reading this post, do you think a DRZ is a good upgrade from an XT350? If you had my beaten bike, what would you get in the 350-450 range that is super reliable and low maintenance?

What's wrong with the XT350?

That's what I went to...except the DR350 to the DRZ 400. Nice upgrade. My main reason was the e start. Knee was giving me problems. But if you want to stay in that range and not break the bank, a DRZ is a great choice.

Theres a few thing needing work and I think the bike will be more happy with a new owner. The fuel economy or tank size is great, usually 220-230km range before I took the airbox off.

I'm instested. This will require everyone to have a 200-250km range and decent lighting setup. Have a feeling it will be dark when we hit Harrision East depending on when we leave.

Here is an update on the status of this ride.

So far 4 people have said they are going to do it and there are 9 others who have expressed interest in going if they can get the time. The four who said they are going to go are Farp, Phoenix, The Count, and One Lung. Motorambler definitely wants to go but might have a problem getting time off.

The ride is scheduled for June 9 and 10, (Wed and Thus). I suggest we meet at the Sasquatch Inn on the morning of June 9 and leave at 9:00AM, but that time is subject to change depending on what the group wants to do. If anybody has a problem with that time please let us know.

I have posted a downloadable GPS file of the route on bike.stu.ph. Here is the link to that file:

http://bike.stu.ph/rides/ride.php?ride=204

and here is a photo of the route in Google Earth:

And here is a photo of the same route as shown in Mapquest:

The green spur at the head of Harrison Lake is an optional side trip to Sloquette Hot Springs.

The longest leg between gas stations is from the Sasquatch Inn to Mt Currie - a distance of about 210km. Depending on how far we get the first day we'll be spending the night either in Seton Portage or Lillooet, and that decision will best be made at the end of the day. Harrison Hot Springs will mark the end of the ride. I'll be trucking my bike to the Sasquatch Inn but others might want to choose different routes home.

This promises to be a great ride and all who want to join us are welcome. Please feel free to post any comments or questions. It's just about 2 1/2 months to go - can't wait.

I am very interested, and the time off should not be a problem. My only concern is righ now I can only get about 80km per tank (7litres) so I need to devise a plan to carry more fuel. An IMS tank would give me an extra 4 litres but it looks like I would need to carry another 10 litres to be safe.

Wow, I thought I got lousy mileage

I typically get about 120 to 150 km from 8.5 liters with my injectedSherco 450. Maybe more open FSR will increase your mileage. If I cruise FS roads and pavement I get as high as 150km per tank.

Then again maybe I don't twist the throttle as hard :dr:

I rode with the trail clean up at cultus on saturday. I filled up at the gas station, rode about 45km mostly hard trails and ran out on the way home at 87.5km. I have never been able to get a total 7l into my 7l tank. I dont know if I would be able to get my ims tank in time. I have two one gallon rotopax, I just dont think that will be enough!

You're right about needing 14 liters in addition to what your tank holds. If you carry it in a separate container that's going to be about 22 pounds of gas plus the weight of the container. It's a long trip and making sure that the container doesn't vibrate free could be a problem. I think your best bet would be to find a 21 liter (or more) gas tank that will fit your bike. If that's not an option perhaps you could rig up some sort of pannier and pack two containers. What ever you come up with it's got to be robust enough to withstand a crash without rupturing. Do some surfing and I'm sure you'll find something that will work. Good luck.

Those mileage figures sound incredibly low to me.

Somethin ain't right there! When I last did this ride a buddy was riding an 08 TE510 with the performance pipe and mapping and stock tank. He carried a small 4L jerry can and used it twice. Once between the hatchery and Mt. Currie. The other between Lillooet and Harrison Hot Springs (we bypassed Lytton and Boston bar).
