Can the rest of you please let me know if you're available for the wing night on April 26, 6:00 PM. There is lots of time to reschedule if the 26 is a bad night for too many of you.
Thanks, guys, that makes seven of us now confirmed for the wing night on Monday the 26th, so I'd say that's enough to make it a go. There are still people who haven't replied so there may be more. I'd like to know how many are coming by Friday so I can give the pub a heads up that we'll be there.
There are now 12 of us confirmed for the ride. Please check the 1st post in this thread for all the up-to-date information and inform me if there are any errors.
There are now nine of us confirmed for the wing night and I still have to hear from one rider. Check the first post in this thread for the up-to-date details.
Just click on the link and when the page opens you will find options for downloading it at the bottom. I will add this link to the first post on this thread so it will be easily available for future reference.
There were several queries about gas and mileage between fill up points. The two longest legs of the trip are from Sasquatch to Mt. Currie (including the side trip to Sloquette Hot Springs) and from Lilooett to Harrison Hot Springs, both of these legs are about 200km (125 miles) long. You should carry enough gas to take you 240km (150 miles) to allow for side trips, back tracking, and other unexpected gas consumption.
Man, just when everything was going so good.........I just got off the phone talking to Jeff Ladd, who works for the BC Forest Service, about the washout on the Harrison West road. Jeff told me that because of 4 wheel drive idiots doing insane things to try to get past the washout the Forest Service sent in a faller and cut down about 50 trees across the road at the washout. He said it is absolutely impossible now for a bike or anything else to get through and that it is highly unlikely that the road will be fixed before the early part of July, possibly by the July 1st weekend but definitely not by June 9/10. So it looks like our trip has hit a roadblock.
It appears that we either postpone the trip until the washout is fixed or cancell it.
For anybody who likes the asphalt I'd still be up for doing a two day street ride on June 9/10. Perhaps use the Sea to Sky to get to Pemberton then Duffy Lake > Lillooet > Pavillion > Cache Creek > Kelowna where we'd spend the night. Next day head south and cross the border at Osoyoos and come back through the north Cascades via hwy 20.
I don't know what else to suggest; if anybody has any idea at all of how to salvage this please speak up. I'd be up for riding to the washout this Sunday to check it out and see if it's possible to cut a bike trail around it.
East side of Harrison, maybe a stop at them other hot springs on onthe wayto my booked room, and then an alternate route back ? Tunnels/old rail gradesperhaps(exiting Hope then back to Lougheed/Harrison), still keeping in mind the relaxed ride planned?
Keep talking Alex, you're making a lot of sense and it's getting interesting. Do you know of any alternate ways back? Or, what if we just went back the way we came via East Harrison, or possibly returned via Hwy 12 to Lyton then the down Hwy 1 to Boston Bar then cross the river and back up to Nahatlatch? Anything rather than postpone or cancel.
Here's somthing we might try for the return trip. Hwy 12 from Lillooet to Lytton. East on hwy 1 for about 20km then south on the Nicoamen forest service road which comes out on Hwy 1 just north of Boston Bar, then cross the river, ride north to Nahatlatch and back the way we came.
I don't see a problem for you guys. You would have enough man-power to providegrunt work, and throw a few tow straps into the mix & you could likely make your way past the washout. Besides, it would make for some great story-telling & photos -- and that's what adventure is all about.
Of course, I don't know what Mr. Ladd's interpretation of "impossible" is, so maybe I should just shut up...
Arthur, he told me they had felled over 50 trees across the road. The intent was to totally discourage any 4 wheel drive guys with a winch from trying to undo their roadblock, so I don't think a dozen or so guys on bikes would have much success.
