Hey, this is shaping up real nice. Just to keep things straight it looks like we've got 5 guys who are in so far. They are:

John - Farp
Alex - Phoenix
Arthur - Motorambler
Kerry - The Count
Eric - One Lung

Strong Left leg - Aaron, OTG - Ron, and Buckethead - Matthew are also interested. I think Lev - Franhoser would also like to come if he can get the time. Unfortunately, Lev, some of us (me for one) just aren't up to doing this all in one day.

Maybe now is the time to pick a date for the ride. The Dead Zone is on July 3rd so to keep as much separation as we can I suggest we go the middle of the June 7 week. How does June 9/10 (Wed, Thus) sound? Do those dates cause a problem for anyone?

There are a couple of small motels in Seton Portage and more in Lillooet which is only about another hour or so down the road. I don't think we'd have much trouble finding rooms in Lillooet. It should only take us about 6 hrs or so to get to Seton from the Sasquatch Inn so if we left at 9:00AM we'd get to Seton in the middle of the afternoon and we might want to carry on to Lillooet. It's only about another 40 miles. By not pre-booking rooms we can choose what we want to do when we get there. What do you guys think - pre book, or take what's available when we get there?

June 9/10th works for me and take what we can get as far as accomodations are concerned.

I am interested in this ride but what would the mileage between fuel stops be? I may have to buy an ims tank for this one!

I rode Harrison west on my XT250 last year and carried a 4lt fuel can with me. I topped up at the end of the lake. After fueling in Pemberton I figure I could have made it without the extra fuel but it would have been on reserve. An extra liter or two is all I'm going to take.

How far can you get on a tank? I can only get about 80km of technical trails and maybe 100km of road

The longest leg would be Sasquatch Inn to Mt Currie - about 112 miles (180k). The next longest leg is Boston Bar to Harrison Hot Springs - about 80 miles (130k).

Buying an IMS tank might be a little costly. I bought several 1 liter stainless steel water bottles at London drugs for about 8 bucks each. They work great for gas. I suggest you do something similar - unless you really want an IMS tank and are just looking for an excuse to buy one.

One thing, whatever you choose make sure it's unbreakable. Some people have used 2 liter pop bottles to pack extra gas in and I can't emphasize strongly enough what a bad idea that is. They work fine for holding gas but if you crash and the bottle ruptures and the gas ignites it could quite easily kill you. Simply not worth the risk.

So far, myself, Alex, Kerry and Eric are down for June 9/10 and taking whatever we can get for motels, so I guess we can pencil those dates in. I'm pretty sure those dates will work for Arthur too but I'll let him speak for himself. The ride is on and now comes the hard part - waiting for it.

Zeddy, Buckethead, Roaddane, Strongleftleg, and everybody else - you're all more than welcome. Please post up just as soon as you can confirm.

As of today, those dates work for me, so I am in. However, job uncertainty may change that. Only time will tell. If I do go I might strap a 2 gallon Rotopax unit to my rear rack for those that are fuel challenged, but shouldn't need it for myself.

There are two small motels in Seton Portage, the other option is to carry on to Lillooet and spend the night there.

Hey guys...

This trip is going to be a good one. Pat, Mark, Matt, and I have used the a similar route you describe as the way to get to and from Lillooett when we do our big ride in September. The only difference being we were leaving from North Van so did the Sea to Sky instead of West Harrison. I know we left North Van really early, and we were in Lillooet just after 12:00.....had a bite to eat, dropped off some gear and headed out to the Shulaps for the afternoon.

One thing about your route in the backtracking into Pemberton for fuel. As far as I remember there is no place to fuel up if you head right from West Harrison towards Darcy......but it should be around noon anyway....good time to grab some food!

We have motel'd in Lillooet and I believe we stayed at the 4 Pines. The rooms are decent (better if you get a room in the new wing). The greek restaraunt on the main drag has good food, and the Lillooet Hotel serves a good breakfast.

I might be able to join you all on this one, but would not know until the week or so before the trip.....work and all...ya know!

I have some GPS tracks of the trip if you need the route down the west side of the Fraser from Lillooet to Nahatlatch.....a couple turns are easily missed if you hvae never been down that way before.

Hi Pete, thanks for the advice. I definitely want the GPS tracks that you have. If you can email them to me that would be much appreciated. It'd be great to have you along so I hope you can get the time off.

I don't think we'll be going to Pemberton for fuel. We can gas up and eat in Mt. Currie and then it's due north from Mt Currie to D'Arcy. In any case it's only about 5 paved miles from Mt Currie to Pemberton so backtacking is of no real consequence.

One thing most people don't know is that gas is available in South Shalalth (about 2 miles down the road from Seton). BC Hydro has two large generating stations there, Bridge River 1 and 2. There is a fuel depot at BR1 (the powerhouse on the main road shortly before you get to the Mission Mtn road) that will sell gas to the general public. I know about this because I designed it and retired just before it was built. I retired 10 years ago but the policy when I retired was that BCH would sell gas to anybody who needed it and I see no reason why that policy would change. But it's about 95 miles from Mt Currie to Lillooet so gassing up in Shalalth should not be necessary.

We can do whatever we want so if the group wants to visit the hot-springs then that's where we'll go. Personally I'd like to take them in - time permitting - but I can't speak for everyone else.
