Harrison > Seton > Boston Bar Dirt Trip

John, thanks for all of your work on this and scouting that you performed this weekend. Steve gave me a call tonight and informed me of the new, bad news on the pass. My intentions for the trip was to ride as much dirt as possible, even riding out to Harrison was going to be a stretch for me. While the options presented are certainly rideable it is not going to work for me. I also own a street bike and can ride up the canyon on that if I prefer.
I had to take a couple of vacation days for this trip and I was really looking forward to the original route. Personally, I am going to have postpone this trip for maybe a month or until the pass opens up. Steve also has decided to postpone the trip so at this point it looks like to group is 2 men smaller.
Thanks again for everything, maybe we can regroup in a month.

This ride is ever evolving and John has put in a lot of time and mileage since the idea was born. Most still seem committed, so in keeping with his original scenic concept, I'm still in.
The one thing that we cannot change is Wednesday evening in Lillooet, so it seems to me we'll have to keep the ride day lengths balanced on both days. The alternatives are all good but I think the best balance is up the Sea to Sky, then Anderson Lake, Seaton Portage and Lillooet. Keep day 2 as it was to Boston Bar. Texas Creek can be saved for another trip when the snow is gone.

oh man I really want to do this trip without a broken wrist ;)

Saving my pennies though to get ready for a coast to coast ride at the end of July.

Here's another option for consideration.
Up the canyon to Boston Bar, Texas Creek road to Lillooet then take the pavement over the Duffy Lake road to Mount Curry. Return to Lillooet via Darcy and Seton Portage. It would be a long day though.

Hey, Dean, I really like that idea, and I don't think it would make the day too long. Anybody else interested in this option?

It just occurred to me that anyone trailering their bike to a start point Wednesday morning will have to finish at the same point Thursday night. With that in mind, a Boston Bar start and finish appears to be the best option. Besides the weather will not be to good up the Sea to Sky.

I wonder if we could get two groups going. One using the sea to sky and the other going via Boston Bar, it would be cool if we could coordinate and hook up in Mt Currie for the D'Arcy - Seton Hi-line run.

If the consensus is the Sea to Sky I'll ride the bike from Chilliwack but if Boston Bar is the start point and people don't want to ride up the canyon I can provide transport for 5 bikes and riders. You would still have to get to Chilliwack preferably with some tie downs.

I have just done an overnighter to Lillooet on my street bike and the ride yesterday over the Duffy lake stretch was COLD. Snow was just above the lake so I can see how John ran into it on east Harrison.

I was originally attracted to this ride because the route was to encompass either or both Harrison FSRs and this would have been new country for me to explore. Although the high-line road and Mission pass are on that list too the re-routed ride has a lot of familiar pavement and does not work for me. Sadly, I am putting this off until the weather warms and the passes clear.

Just a note on the accommodation front. I stayed at the 4 pines motel just off the main drag at the bend in the street. I liked having my bike right outside my room and although certainly nothing fancy it was clean, comfortable and at $57 the price was right. I mention this as there is quite a bit of accommodation in the small town (especially mid week) and I would not hesitate in forgoing booking ahead if the flexibility was an advantage.

John, a heartfelt thanks for all the work you have put into this and I hope the new route works out.

I favour the KLR/Newbie-friendly Sea to Sky. I last did that route 40 years ago with an 8 mpg Ford 4x4. Riding in the rain will be a new experience. (Should I wear my drysuit? )

We could meet at the Taylor Way church Wednesday morning. Or another possibility is the gas station (Shell?) just before Pemberton.

This will work for me, so I would like to be on board for loading bikes in Chilliwack and trucking to Boston Bar. Let me know time and location. thanks, Steve

Wow this has evolved! I would like to avoid trailering/road riding as much as possible. now I am unsure of the plan exactly

It looks like there are two plans in the works right now. One group favours riding the sea to sky to Mt Currie then on to Lillooet via the Seton Hi-line. The other group favours starting in Boston Bar and riding up to Lillooet via Texas Creek, and then either doing Duffy Lake to Mt Currie and then back to Lillooet via Seton Hi-line, or north from Lillooet toward Pavilion, and ride one of the day 2 options back to Lillooet. Day 2 would remain as planned with the ride terminating at Boston Bar.

I see no reason why each group can't do what they want on day 1.

Farp, Eagleguy, Westcoast, Phoenix and Know_fear favour starting in Boston Bar.

North, Old Phart, Kid Callahan and wjm favour the sea to sky route.

The Count, One Lung, Fastcat, Zeddy, Icanpopawheely and Waltermitty haven't yet made their preference known.

Caribooster and Tmurrayis have dropped out.

In spite of all the set-backs and twist and turns this ride is still on, nothing is gonna stop us from having our ride - and that's what dual-sport motorcycling is all about.

Looks like two different plans, I'm favouring the Boston Bar plan. Too much slab for my D606's via sea to sky.
Cheers, Alex.

Well I was going to do the trip but I am wondering what the plan really is. Are we still meeting in Harrison at 9am? Maybe let the other people meet up in Lillooet if they want

There is no point in going to Harrison Hot Springs now because the route we were going to take is impassable due to snow.

There is a group of riders who would prefer to ride up the sea to sky hwy to Mt Currie and then proceed to Lillooet via the Seton Hi-line route. This will likely be all the riding they will do on day 1.

There is another group of riders who would prefer to meet at Boston Bar and proceed to Lillooet via the Texas Creek route, this group would likely get to Lillooet in the early afternoon so some additional riding will likely be in store for them, perhaps going to Mt Currie via the Duffy Lake road and then back to Lillooet via the Seton Hi-line, or maybe just taking one of the day 2 options and looping back to Lillooet. Group concensus will be the determining factor in what the Boston Bar group decides to do once they reach Lillooett, but what ever they choose to do it will be a really interesting ride.

Well I got my new rear tire, an Anakee 2 today for the GS. Now I just have to get some brake pads on Tuesday and put everything on, pack and I am good to go.
