Harrison > Seton > Boston Bar Dirt Trip

I think it's time to confirm "the plan".

Uhmmmm.....If I've got it right.....and that's a big if:

Farp, Phoenix, Eagle Guy, Westcoast, North and Know Fear will meet at the Boston Bar Bridge at 11:00am Wed morning and ride up to Lillooet via the Texas Creek route.

Old Phart, wjm, and Kid Callahan will meet at the Church parking lot on the corner of Upper Levels and Taylor way and ride the sea to sky to Mt Currie, and then on to Lillooet via the Seton Hi-Line route. I have no idea what time they are meeting; that is something they will have to agree on amongst themselves.

The Count, Zeddy, One Lung, Fastcat1100xx, Icanpopawheely and Waltermitty have not yet responded.

Caribooster and Tmurrayis have dropped out.

I've also taken it upon myself to somewhat arbitrarilly fill in some of the details of "the plan". This was necessary because there just isn't enough time left to get a consensus. However, if anybody has a problem with anything that's been outlined so far please let me know ASAP.

The count and I were hoping to meet up with the group that is going through mt currie in mt currie, about what time do they plan on being there? I have no desire to ride the sea to sky on my bike!

There's a 50% chance I'll be able to do this trip. I have Wed off & am waiting to find out if I can get Thurs off too. I am riding up West Harrison > Mt. Currie > D'Arcy > Seton > Lillooet. Yes, there's a risk of being turned away at the washout, & I am ok with that & don't have any problem turning back. I don't mind trying to navigate over/around the logs/trees.

If anyone is interested in joining let me know.

To repeat, me going depends on a few things that need to go my way tomorrow morning (before I go to work in the afternoon):
  • I locate an air filter for my DR350
  • I locate a front brake disc & find a shop to remove the old one (2 stripped bolts)
  • I get Thurs off

I think it's time for one of you sea to sky riders to step up and call the shots re meeting times etc. I don't think it matters who does it but it's got to be done because it seems that you are all waiting for someone else to do it and we no longer have the time. I'm not going that route and I think the decisions should be made by someone who is actually doing the ride so it's gotta be one of you guys.

If I go I plan on leaving the Sasquatch Inn at 8am. It's about 185km or so to Mt. Currie, so I think I should be there 'round 12:00 - 12:30pm, factoring time for pics/snacks/hauling bike over trees/etc :) If that doesn't work for you guys let me know & I can either leave earlier or later :)

Any estimates on how long it'll take the group doing the sea to sky route. Would be nice to meet up with you guys in Lillooet and then maybe head out for some more riding if that is possible. I'm wondering how early we'd have to leave Vancouver to arrive in Lillooet around the same as you?

Maybe we can make the meeting place somewhere with coffee....maybe donuts. Although a gas station where I can grab a redbull would be fine too.

I would says 3 1/2 hours. It's a 130 km past Whistler.

Thanks John, There is a Shell Gas station in Mt Currie, Does the group riding the Sea to Sky want to meet US there at 12-1230?

I guess it's technically in Pemberton

It will take you about 2 hrs to get from the church at Taylor Way and the Upper Levels to Mt Currie, total distance is about 85 miles and the hwy is really good now. It's about 25 miles from Mt Currie to D'Arcy and the road is paved and twisty - should take you about 3/4 of an hour. Seton Hi-line is 20 miles should take you about 3/4 hr to get to Shalalth. Shalalth to Lillooet is about 35 miles should take you about an hour. All these times are driving times. Total riding time from the church to Lillooet should be about 4 1/2 to 5 hours. It used to take me about 4 hrs from my house in Ladner to drive to the BC Hydro powerhouse in Shalalth - that's using the company SUV.

When you get to D'Arcy it's a little hard to find the road to the Seton Hi-Line. The turn off is before you actually get to the D'Arcy settlement. You will notice train tracks on the north side of the road. The tracks are on top of a dike like embankment. There is a turn off from the road that goes over the train tracks (it looks like you're going into somebodys yard) but on the other side there is a right hand turn down a gravel road that turns into the Seton Hi-Line.

There is a possibility that the Boston Bar group might take the Duffy Lake road to Mt Currie and get back to Lillooet via the Seton Hi-line. We are leaving Boston Bar at 11:00 and it should take us about 2 hrs to get to Lillooet, maybe a little more. Duffy Lake to Mt Currie should be about an hour. So if we do that (big if right now) we should be in Mt Currie about 2 to 3 o'clock and back to Lillooet about 6:00.

We're on our way tomorrow guys - whoohoooo!!!!!

Actually Mt Currie is about 6 miles down the road from Pemberton.

For those who want to do the Sea to Sky let's meet at the St. Davids church on Taylor Way//Upper Level highway West vancouver at 10AM, then regroup if necessary at the Pioneer Junction Shell station at 12:00. We can have lunch in Currie (or Pemberton) then head up the road to Darcy and do the HighLine road to Lilloet

I was originally planning on doing the Sea to sky route but that seems like a really short day.
Here is an idea for both routes.
It would involve the boston bar group leaving an hour earlier, so I don't know how everyone feels about that.

PLAN A.
Boston Bar Group: leave at 10 am.
Sea to Sky Group: leave at 11 am.
BB Group: Arrive at Lillooet around 12.
BB Group: Refuel and grab a drink. Leave for Mt. Currie.
BB Group & S2S Group: Arrive at mount currie 1-2pm
Ride D'Arcy--Seton Portage-- Lillooet as a group.
Arrive Lillooet 5-6pm.
Farp, you estimate the Mt.Currie to Lillooet loop being 3-4 hours. So even if we decide to take our sweet ass time as a large group....we would still be in Lillooet before 6pm. Plenty of time to check in and what not.

I like this plan. I makes for slightly earlier start for the boston bar group. But allows us to meet up and continue on all together.

Having said that. I have decided to do the Boston Bar Route and would still do the Duffy Lake to Mt.Currie and seton portage, even if we don't manage to arrange a meet up time.

So, KidCallahan (Callahan) is on the Boston Bar Route now.

What are the real world estimates from Vancouver to Boston bar. I know how long Google maps says it will take. Wondered if it was correct.

Google Maps 2 hours 44 mins Vancouver -- Boston Bar.

This should be a good time......don't forget your rain gear!!!

Callahan, I all ready have to leave home at 7am to get to Chilliwack and load for BB, so I am ot interested in an earlier start. You live in Van. so doing sea to sky is less pavement and better scenery all the way to Lillooet. If you get there early, there is lots off more dirt around to ride until evening. Did you see Norths estimate of the time from Darcy to Lillooet? it is 3.5 hrs + the 3 hrs . from N.Van. so that is 6.5 hr total, you get to Lillooet about 4? pm.

I second that start time Eagleguy, leaving Boston Bar at 10:00 is not on my radar.

Speaking as someone who has driven the sea to sky route to Lillooet via the Seton Hi-line numerous times here are the approximate times it typically took me in a 2 wheel drive SUV.

Upper levels and Taylor Way to Mt Currie -------------------- 2 to 2 1/2 hours
Mt Currie to D'Arcy --------------------------------------------- 3/4 hr
D'Arcy to Shalalth ---------------------------------------------- 1 hr
Shalalth to Lillooet --------------------------------------------- 1 to 1 & 1/2 hrs.

The times will be less for dual sport bikes, even allowing for sightseeing and photo ops the total time from the Church to Lillooet should be no more than 6 1/2 to 7 hrs plus whatever time it takes for a lunch break.

I'm planning on leaving my truck and trailer (Burgundy Tundra with white Wells Cargo) at the BC Hydro substation at the south end of Boston Bar. If you see it there as you go by we should be waiting at the bridge.

I'll be leaving Port Coquitlam about 7:00am and riding my KLR out of town along Hwy 7 (north side)
I am allowing 4 hours to arrive at Boston Bar by 11:00am. Should be plenty of time stopping occasionally during the monsoon to defog my visor.
Bryn

Bill, Where are you riding out from ? and what time are you leaving ?
