Bottom line is this. If on the steering head of your bike the sticker says M.C. (motorcycle) you are bulletproof.

The beta distributor is right here Coquitlam, looks like 5th gear is not listed as a dealer. Gnarly Parts I know became a dealer this year. Call Dave and he'll tell you if they are factory street legal.

I'm going to call Tues if open or else wed. Would be interesting to see these close up.

well i think that brochure,with the RR enduro models,and the RS dual-sport models answers the question. looks like beta has taken the same approach as ktm's xc-w and exc(street legal) line ups.

The guy who sold me my Beta told me something that seems funny as this grey area comes to light. He told me the Beta had a catalytic converter in the muffler that he gutted. It seems weird that an off road bike would have that kind of emission control. I guess it is on the bike to meet the US standard, but just because it's road legal in the US doesn't guarantee it's legal here.

Edit: I bet the catalytic converter would be more to satisfy European emission control than the EPA.

a lot of the gasgas 2 stroke enduros, came over from europe in the crates with a black catalytic converter pipe as well as the nickel plated expansion chamber we are familiar with on a 2 stroke and insanely lean jets included with the bike, as some places in the world,ie:european countries,these bikes are/have to be street legal in order to ride road sections in enduro races over there. the beta's having that type of setup does not surprise me at all. My ec300 gasgas offroad enduro has all the harness,switches etc to be quickly made street legal, if my local government would just cooperate with the idea! the best part is honking the horn to pass on a single track trail!

Could the frame be modified, swap on some parts from a different bike and registered as a u-bilt? I see Harleys with no suspension, frames welded by blind people and they can be registered legally as u-bilt.

Anything is possible but if a 350 plated is what you want why not just go with the legal Orange bike and save yourself all the pain in the ass? You gotta ask yourself is the Blue 350 THAT much better??

I tried to get a straight answer/set of build rules or requirements out of the head dot guy regarding what they would be looking for on building a ubilt motorcycle that would pass an inspection first crack in bc when this law/amendment first came out. let's just say,the answer was the kind of thing,that you hear from politicians. Lots of jabber, no substance or balls to give a straight answer and back it up with some paperwork and a signature, that you could take to a higher level if needed. All i got was,it is up to the discretion of the inspection facility. Give me a f kin break,are you kiddin me?? We have laws in this province that can potentially side line a seemingly street legal motorcycle, but apparently, there is not anything written down??? that doesn't make a lot of sense does it

I threw out the question about the blue one only because the sales guy said it could be plated, not because blue is my favorite color.
For that and for it being tuned for offroad instead of running lean to meet some emisson standard, plus it's already geared for dirt. So if its just add lights and a plate then why not.
But reading this thread has gotten me wishing for a carbureted Beta 520 RS. Too bad its not available in Canada

A friend of a friend told me of a couple of guys that were pulled over and the cops looked closely at the bikes and determined the tires were not DOT. Thus they were told they must get picked up and not return to the streets until the tires wereDOT. I was just wondering if anyone here has or knows anyone who has been pulled over with a registered and insured RUM bike and then been sent for an inspection and then had their registration and insurance yanked.

Thus they were told they must get picked up and not return to the streets until the tires wereDOT. I was just wondering if anyone here has or knows anyone who has been pulled over with a registered and insured RUM bike and then been sent for an inspection and then had their registration and insurance yanked.

I heard about those guys getting pulled over and went out and bought a DOT rear tire. I got pulled over in Maple Ridge the other day but after the nice lady saw I actually had a plate on my bike she said that was why she pulled me over. She couldn't see my plate. She didn't give me a hard time about how it was hard to see under all the mud and all the zip ties that hold it together. Then she said she didn't need to see my papers 'cause nobody would ride in that much orange

without the proper papers!

It seems like riding orange on the street is the way to go.

Which is good because we were seriously cold and stiff and would probably have been grumpy enough to get in trouble unnecessarily if he had decided to hassle us.

I did take the time to splash a bit of water on the plate and lights before we hit the freeway though, might have helped avoid trouble.

I can tell you why I think they were there. I was at the other end of vance as I am most weekends. When will people learn, loud pipes piss people off, never mind ripping up and down thru residencial areas. Side by's Quads, dirt bikes. About the only decent and respectable off roaders were plated dualsport/dirt bikes. Seems the mesage is out there to our kind but not reaching all.

I was stopped by the Police three times on my Husky 610 for no reason. Two where road blocks during the Day. For all three, they checked my Drivers License for Motorcycle. For two of them they checked my insurance and where trying to figure out if the plate was for the bike. I don't think they figured it out. No-one checked tires, lights, horns, etc. To me, you are just asking for trouble by running non-DOT tires on the road. My Bike is not a RUM, but most Police would not know that unless they checked the sticker. Even very much more so for my KTM that looks totally off road, which I had never been stopped on, touch wood.

I have to wonder how the Police knew the Tires were not DOT. There are some pretty good street legal knobbies. My street legal knobbies don't say DOT on them. How do you tell, unless you know you facts? Is there a mark, 666?

I was under the impression that if your "street legal knobbies" don't say DOT then they are not DOT and hence are NOT street legal. That said, the DOT marking can be pretty hard to find, I had to hunt for quite a while to locate it on my MT21 -- it was in pretty small lettering and I think only on one side of the tire.
