Until we have a Husky dealer on the Island I'm staying away. That being said, as soon as we do i'll be in there before they unpack the crates! Love the SMR510, thought about it, decided on a used 05 EXC instead. Getting a full brake setup, wheels, and all appropriate sprokets, fender,brake lines, fasteners. KTM even has a cush drive option on the rear hub.

Best of both worlds. Dirt fun and SM track madness!

Sweet Husky dude.

IanB - it wasn't that I didn't get a response: the system wouldn't let me contact him, which normally means the user has PM, and email options turned off - prettycommon for someone using a business email addy.



malachi - you could have at least linked to the comparable Bikes !!

If the web pages are correct though, the Husky 610 is a heavy pig compared to the others. ( that was one of the details I was hoping to find out from 5thgear) IMHO, the huskys look more 'finished' but I'd have to see both bikes first hand, and try riding them to make a judgement on which suits me, and my needsbetter. Given that I have the Buell for longer stuff, I'm favoring the lightweight SMR510 right now...

I think Bill has a 610 SMR himself, which you probably could try. Although the stats say 300 lbs, it certainly doesn't feel like it. Just feels like my 450TE with more grunt.

thanks Ian - that was one of my questions. 'weight'seemsto be one of those specs thats more-or-less meaningless in a lot of cases. My Buell '9' ( 984cc) was speced as 372 dry last year, but this years modellists as390. I stopped by the weigh scales just south of calgary when I visited this summer, and running weight for my bike with ~1/2 tank was 392lbs ....~20lbs for battery, oil, and 7 litres of gas would make sense, so <shrugs>

Given that I've got the Buell, and am modifying it to something more like an adventure-motard spec, I might just go with the 510 as a 'fun' bike. any idea what the power output of the 510 is vs 610? ( unrestricted, I guess - no point leaving california smog gear on there :D)

HEy big boar - maybe its MY machine thats the issue - does the BBS software work with XP media/ IE &, or maybe my popup blocker is killing PM/email?

anyway - was going to ask you for a favor big boar - can you caliper the outside of the outer tube on the SM510 forks for me? I've been looking for longer travel forks for the Buell, and the length & travel on the 510 looks darn near perfect

on a side note....I stopped by the bike shop near my work to check out the V-twin dirtbikes from Aprillia......very trick looking....and a 30 day warranty.

30 day warranty, and they list a 39"seat height :shock:( I'm 5'4" - I'd have to dislocate my hip to sling a leg over.)

You could find the Husky's a bit challenging in the seat height department as well:hr:

the husky is 3" lower static height, (36") and as far as I've been able to tell sits ~34" with the riders weight on it....that'd just be manageable, especially for a bike that I wont be taking passangers on.

the Aprilia is so high I'd actually have to get off the bike at lights, or anytime I was stationary for more than a second or two...kinda sucks, 'cause I'm partial to V twins, plus Kelowna yamaha is a dealer. ( or they were an aprilia dealer, anyway)

Ulendo, I don't have the sm model but the forks look to be the same diameter with a different travel. ( I think my te has more travel than the sm ). Kind of odd sizes. The top clamp is 58 mm and the bottom clamp is 61 mm. Hope this will help you.

thanks BB, and yes, its helpful. Stock Buell clamps are 54mm top, 56mm lower - I'll have to take a look see whether theres enough material to mill it out for those forks, or if I'd have to convert the complete steering head over.

I'm still waiting to hear back from showa on whether/not I can get stock type forks with more travel!! decisions decisions...

hey ulendo. dont know how far north you are, but rivercity cycle in kamloops has huskys.

right now I'm in kelowna, so neither westbank, nor kamloops is too bad. ( I go to Kamloops for the Buell anyway)

with some luck,I should be landing in Terrace within a month though...all bets are off then
