KTM 690 Rad issue?

I got a couple leaks lately. The first one was in a very protected spot on the back of the rad above the wate temp. sensor. Now I have this leak on the back of the rad:


I found the wiring plug for the rad fan put this hole in the rad. This is the connector. It was strapped to the frame cross brace just below the overflow tank. I am not 100% sure if this location is factory but I have moved it now.


In the top pic you can see the foam tape I put between the rad and the fan to prevent the fan from wearing a hole in the rad.

I also noticed the rad fan housing was wearing a hole in my upper rad hose. I patched it up and the new rad has a wee bit of clearance, the old rad had bent mounting tabs. I am gonna check into

I put a new rad in so I will be fixing this one and it will be available for sale or rent etc if anyone needs fix theirs.

I have a difficult to locate leak that only shows once the bike is good and hot. Location seems to be high on the rad cap side, in front of the rad. I don't have the rad fan issue. I am going to re-examine the upper hose again but I don't think it's there.

I had the rad to the rad shop and they couldn't find the leak but I'm not convinced they did a hot test.

My camelback isn't big enough to feed me and the 690 rad...

Oh yes, I also had a leaking rad cap last year. It was hard to find but the swivel joint for the overflow line was leaking sometimes. That was the easiest one to fix!

I finally got a new set of rad hoses for the KTM 690. I got some Silicon Hoses for high temp resistance and of course they are Orange for the Bling factor.






I had patched up the wear point from the Rad Fan with some plastic from a windshield washer fluid jug and some duct tape. It was showing signs of rubbing even with the new rad. The old rad had bent mounting tabs and it was rubbing a lot.




I transfered the plastic to the new hose and taped it on.


That should be good for 24,000+ kms as the stock ones have 12,000 now.

Removed the upper hose.


Then removed the lower hose and installed the new ones. Looking good with a bit more Orange highlights eh!


I screened and reused as much of the old anti-freeze as I could and am ready to go again for this weekends Gnarly Parts ride!

Those German style hose clamps look surprisingly similar to the ones sold at Cdn Tire for $0.69 each... I think the only thing German style about $16.00 for four clamps is the price.

As I said before:

If you swap them out for Fuel Injection clamps from Lordco they will never cut the pipe as they have no teeth.

The radiator blues!
I am on my third radiator. It is getting real dissapointing already! At $650.00 a hit and they all leak in the same spot- top right about 1 inch from side and 1 inch down. I am discussing it with KTM now but my guess is they will tell me to suck it up! I know they have a flaw in the design or manufacturing process. The rad shop could only locate the leak when they heated it up and the pressurized it. First one was repaired with a 2 part epoxy but never tried it, the second one I was forced to dump in some rad stop leak repair and it held for about 3 months but now it is leaking like a pig. So if other riders have the same concerns then let KTM know and maybe the squeeky wheel will get some changes done.
