Looking for A SpokesPerson

Anyone know of a good shop or person with experience with lacing up wheels? I'd like to ditch my 17" rear stock wheel. I'd like too use my stock hub and lace it to 18". Why? The 17" inch size is too limiting for tire purchases. I particularly had a liking to throwing on some trials tires, and 17's seem nonexistent. Can't find anyone who sells a billet aluminum hub for a KLR and the cost of a new stock hub is :mad3:

Hi,
You might want to try the IRC GP-1's. An excellent trials tire in my opinion. Just burned off a 4.60 - 17 and I'm putting on a 5.10 - 17 now. Awesome tire but wears a little too quick.

Interesting! I never saw that GP1 tire. Any idea how it compares to the TR-011. Seems whenever I'm spelunking an old favorite road, mysteriously 20 years later it's more like riding a creek bed. I make it up with the stock Dunloops, seems wherever I go with the Pig it's rocks or roots. Seems some sticky tape would be better than knobs.

No idea about the TR-011. New tire only available in 18". Quote off somewhere:
"IRC GP1 Rear Dual Sport Tires : IRC's Trials tires are designed to provide the best possible handling and control for both on and off the pavement. The special knobs penetrate loose surfaces for excellent traction, braking and cornering off the road yet won't wear off as fast as a full knobby when used on the street. Perfect for all street legal dual-purpose motorcycles."
I've ridden the GP-1 in CA and AZ this winter. Excellent performance on rocks, sand, gravel, river crossings and some mud. Furthermore, it is a fantastic road tire, incredible traction and very quiet.
I've used TKC's, Kenda 760's, Mitas, MT21's, and Maxxi's, and I think the GP-1 is a far superior all round KlR tire than any of the above. My only concern is the relatively quick wear, granted that the tire I just burned off was one size too narrow, a 4.60 only. It was the only GP-1 I could get at the time. I have a new 5.10 in the garage and it'll go on before the Orca run. my2c worth.

I read some reviews on the GP 1, sounds good so far. I think I'll give them a whirl before I do something as drastic as a new wheel. Now for the real questions. Where are you buying IRC's and what bike do you have them on?

Thanks for the info.:hb:

I ride an 03 KLR 650 and have about 70,000 km's on it. I bought one set at Chaparral in San Bernardino, CA . The other rear was bought at a small local dealer in Cottonwood, AZ. Chaparral ships orders over $150 for free in the States and they will also ship to Canada if you call them. I am sure you can find the IRC's at all kinds of online dealers. Good luck.
