Noobie Ride Details - October 17 2010

Yeesh, you're making me have doubts!
If we're not doing so hot on 'EZ Street' or 'Milk Run' is it fairly easy to bail and join up the C route? I feel like the C route is grated gravel roads (boring easy) and the way you explain it, the B routes seems a bit tough! Do any KLR's ride the B loop, or is it purely <650 bikes?

'Last rider out' is 10, so when will the ride actually be starting? Is arriving at 9:30 too late?

Hi Dizo, It'll be about the same as that trail that led to the decommisioned bridge on Chapman Creek that we rode to a couple of weeks ago. I've gone on lots of rides over worse stuff with Arthur when he owned that bike that you now have and he didn't have any problems and you won't either. Don't worry about it, you'll be fine.

Gonna throw this question out there again....is there anywhere to stow luggage like a top box while we ride? Or so we need to make sure we keep it on the bike?

Bring a chain and use a tree.. Or ask 'the bus''s driver real nice if you can keep something inside. (some are transporting their bikes on an old bus, I'm sure you can stow a top box - but I'll be riding with my baggage on the bike.)

No problems Ron, with you on one end and me on the other it should be easy to hoist that bike back to the trail .

Yes you can put your bags on the bus, just make sure you put your name on them

Any chance of DL650 with Trailwings enjoying route B? As a point of reference for my (lack of) skills, I rode last week Harrison West to Pemberton and managed somehow to not fall on harder sections along north end of the lake. That part I found pretty challenging, not ready for something harder.

I've not ridden the route, but read: "Vstrom 650 is not recommended at all" at http://www.dualsportbc.com/forums/showthread.php?8631-Noobie-Ride-B-Route , referring to this years B loop. So unless you are a beast of a rider, meant to say DR650, or enjoy dropping your bike, i'd say it wouldn't be wise.

I rode that section of West Harrison a few months ago and at it's worst it's about a "C+" level. If you found that section "pretty challenging" you are not ready for the B route. Ride the C route, have a good time and don't worry about it. The B route will be significantly more challenging than the north end of west Harrison.

ahhh crap zapper batman...i got the date wrong. spent about for hours cleaning lubing, oil change etc etc for this ride...even out the temp insurance for the day. THE WRONG DAY! thought it was tommorow (as in today the 16th) major brain fart on my part. I should still be able to make it on Sunday for the actual ride! lol

Can my son (car licence only) and I (motorcycle licence and car licence) come to the
October 17th ride with our KDX 220s (one has plates, the other has liability insurance only)?

I just received a text message from Tom who is at the staging area now (Saturday night). The site is full of fisherman so all DSBC people who are trailering their bikes to the event tomorrow MUST PARK ACROSS THE STREET at the kyackers parking lot which is on Chilliwack Lake road just after the Tamahi Bridge (this is only 300' from the staging area. If you try to park at the staging area you will be asked to turn around. You can bring your bikes into the staging area for breakfast, meet and greet, riders meeting YOU MUST IDLE IN AND IDLE OUT.

Thanks to the folks that put this together. And thanks again to the folks from Pacific Yamaha/BMW/Husky for helping get my sick orange bike started. Unfortunately I had to bail shortly after due to some nasty sounds coming from the engine (timing chain I think).
