Tom,

This will connect Sylvester Road to Norrish Creek FSR and also Chehalis.

Could be a possible route for a Newbie Run next year?;)
Let's see someone attempt it with a Multi Strada :dude:

No but you can have a ride in on the main roads and then backtrack to the road for c route at both Sylvester and Chehalis. We back track in Chilliwack. Only B look can have a loop.

Franhoser,

I would not have guessed that was our intended path. The green line looks more like a river bed than a road.

Sure, but if the bike is ever the same is another story  A Multistrada is about as off-road worthy as a superbike, & has no business anywhere near a dual-sport trail, 'C' rated or not. Any place you take a Multi you can take a 1098.

Sorry I couldn't join in the trail work last Sunday. I think Tom, 6fiddy and myself are all asking the same question. The course plotted looks short on the maps but has anyone checked out the Statlu side? The proposed track does not hook up with the Statlu Landing that has been verified. Before a lot more work is done it might be wise to head up Statlu Creek and see if there is a road connecting up to the proposed trail. Maybe someone has already done and a report on that would be good news.

If it isn't passable, there is still the potential to head south along the ridge and then down into the old growth above Statlu landing.

Here's hoping there is a road on the Statlu side that is usable so there isn't a ton of work done for nothing.:gaah:

I hope to have the big bike running this week and will try to make it up for the next work day.

Problems, Problems, Ruskin ,myself and I 'm sorry I can remember your name hiked the old growth over to the Statlu side. We entered the clear cut and B lined it for the old growth. Had to stay high on the north side to avoidthesoft groundarea on the lower portion of the notch. The terrain starts to get a little steep . Then the problem. There are three small ravine on the north sidethat varyfrom 5 to 30 feet deep. because we stayed high to avoid the deep sections we ended up very high on the Statlu side clear cut. I suggest before we put in any more work we should hike this area from the Statlu side to confirm the best possible route. OTG you might be right. the south side needs to be explored.

I believe this is still the best route to get us to Statlu side. It,s just going to take more work.

Looking at the google earth shot I can see the grassy marsh area and the two creeks. The other side could be the better option, evan going threw that mash area and over from there? Some more serious bush wacking is needed

Eagerly awaiting a progress report of today's effort that I couldn't participate in:(. How were the cross ditches for the KLR's ? Any pics ?

Cheers, Alex.

I missed this post on Sunday so I'll reply now:

The cross ditches aren't too bad and will get easier as traffic beats the edges down. The first creek crossing is another story, not too bad going up but, the return trip was not a lot of funon a KLR. I don't think much can be done to improve it - other than a 50m (or so)long bridge. Until that happens other riders will just have to suck-it-up and carry the KLRs through it.:wi:

I walked the second creek, as we had parked the bikes. It could be a bit of a challange but should be KLRable. After that there are a couple of tight spots, but we went only another 400m.

I don't thinkit will ever be Noobie Ride material.:p

I couldn't make it last Sunday and this Sunday I have to do the Family Thanksgiving thing. My Wife is making me go, as I would rather be riding. :(

But I was thinking of riding out early Saturday afternoon and checking out the new trail and see if I can walk to any other FSR from it.

Hey Cheeseburger that would be great. I am just not sure about the time. I am working both Friday and Saturday night, so it depends how late I finish on Saturday morning.

I sent you a PM.

Hi Guys:

I thought I should share some input I received from an observer who was a surveyor by profession:

"I've been following the northwest-connector saga. You're idea of checking out the valleyside is a good one. My contour sheet shows this is very steep terrain (85% grade). The section that goes straight down that 6fiddy says looks like a river bed is actually a landslide that starts at the top landing all the way to the bottom. What looks like an access road at the bottom is actually the creek bed, and there's no road there. The haul-roads are 1/2 way up the sides of the valley, on either side. They look long....and overgrown. From your current route, (Franhosers track)turningright at the brow of the valley, up the valley gets you closer to the skidder trails, but they are on extremely steep ground, and it's a very long way down the valley to the main road and you have to cross the slide. Anyway, like you suggest, actually flaggingout a viable route might save a lot of sweat."

I look forward to hearing from North and company from their exploration. I still think the best route is over to the Statlu landing where we have a confirmed road down to Statlu Main. It will call for cleaning up one of the spur roads through the clearcut heading south but it maybe the least work to connect.

Here is a picture sent along with the above comments:

North if you go up Saturday bring some survey ribbon and mark your course,

Next time we go out we will be able to follow your direction.

While you're at it North, cut down the trees and clear the brushso my bike can fit trought there nextime.

Seriously GPS the thing so we don't keep going in circles with map drawings here.

Hmmmmkay, thanks.

I will post here very early Saturday morning as I finish work, to let you know what is happening.

I will try to get some of that yellow do-not-cross-this-line tape.

So far it's me and you 6fiddy, CheeseBurger might meet us at the end of Sylvester rd.
