Thanks for the input, Ron, it's good to see you're back in the saddle again and I'm looking forward to riding with you real soon.

I made this trip last summer and according to my GPS data it's 176 km from the First Nations Gas stop at the intersection of the Chehailis Fleetwood FSR and the West Harrison FSR to the gas station in Mount Currie. It's probably 200 km, or close to it, from the Sasquatch Inn to Pemberton, but I agree that planning on 220 to 230 kms to be safe is a good idea.

I'm interested in joining you guys. Leaving town for a few days and don't know if I will be back in time. Just got my klx250s. It's around a 2 gallon tank. Does anyone know what kind of range it would have? Or how big of a Jerry can I should strap on the back...

I ride a KLX450 with a 3.2 gal Acerbis tank. Range is about 250 km on fast FSR's (21 km/litre). If you get about 25 km/litre you should bring another litre bottle in your pack just to make sure. Don't want to run outta gas like Tom did on the East Harrison yesterday. (He had a spare litre in his pack)

A two gallon tank on that bike should take you at least 140 miles so you should be alright. I'm a little concerned that if you need to ask that question you might not be a very experienced rider. This is going to be a long and fairly fast ride and you will need to be comfortable travelling 80 to 90 kph on FSRs in order to keep up. If that's no problem for you it'll be great to have you along.

I rode the route most recently a couple of weeks ago and can confirm it's 190 km between fuel. To make it that far on 2 gal (especially if you're talking US gallons) would be tight. While admittedly pushing the speed envelope, I can do it with my 13 litre tank, but usually hit reserve (at 10 litres) before I make it to Pemberton. 10 litres equates to 2.8 us gallons. Your 250 would have to achieve 60 miles/gal in the dirt to make it on 2 us gals. Doable, but impressive.

I'd love the hear that you can make it on the 250 with 2 gals. Let me know.

I did the route last summer with a Honda CRF230L and had no problems making the distance with an 8.7 liter tank, didn't even go on reserve. I would get about 30 to 33 km per liter with the Honda depending on how hard I rode it. I suspect the 250 Kaw would be about the same.

Impressive. While the 8.7 litre tank is more than 2 (US) gals, the reserve probably represents at least a litre, if not 2. I am envious. The 525 would not make it on 8 litres. The price of power, I guess.

Have fun all. I won't be able to make it and am envious.

Hi all,

Can we get a confirmation from everybody who is going on this ride? There are no difficult sections on this ride but it is going to be a long one and a brisk pace (not a race, or crazy fast but not dawdling either) will have to be maintained and we will not have the time to stop every half hour to let stragglers catch up. So, for that reason this ride is not recommended for inexperienced riders, or people who are uneasy about riding over 90 kph on a forest service road.

My buddy Rob and myself are still a go as long as the weather is on our side. But from the looks of things (weather forecast for Sat & Sun), we my need to plan for the following weekend.

Hey Gordon, you're number one on the list - congrats. I'm starting to feel better today so I should be 100% by Sunday, but last weekend was rougher than hell. Worst dose of flu I've had in years and I almost never get sick. What a piss-off missing that ride up Kookipi with you guys last Sunday.

APB out. Look for some guys on dual sport dirt bikes speeding on Harrison West FSR. Possibly doing 90 in a 50 zone.

Hey, Craig, with you and Rob the total is now up to five, with more to come I'm sure. The forecast is only for cloudy with showers so if that's what it is I'd still go. Bring your raingear and hope for the best. If you're gonna ride off-road around here you're gonna get rained on from time to time and intermittent showers are not that bad. But if it's pouring out then I'll stay home. I've gone out lots of times in heavy rain and it' just not any fun.

From last season. This is my riding buddy's earlier model KLX250S with a 5 litre jerry can strapped on. We made it to about 20 or 30 km shy of Pemberton when he sputtered out. The 5 litres were more than enough to get to the PetroCan station in Pemberton.

The 10 litre jerry you see on my bike on the left was complete overkill, 5 litres was more than enough. It was my first time out on that road on that bike so I played it safe.

I'd like to join this ride but at a lesser pace. If anyone is interested let me now. But if you're all going 80 - 90 km/h and no one's interested in less than that then I won't come so as to not hold anyone back. I won't do this solo and I don't want anyone feeling they have to baby-sit me either. I'm mediocre skill set but not exactly newb.

I might pavement it home from Pemberton depending on actual time of arrival.

So far there are five confirmed riders

1 Chico
2 Farp
3 Old Phart
4 Dragonbomb
5 Rob

There were a couple of others who said they wanted to go but have not yet confirmed.

About the speed issue. This is going to be a long ride, close to 400km in total. My experience is that riding at around 60 to 70 kph on the straight sections of FSRs will yield an average speed of about 40 kph overall. This is because there are lots of sections where you can't ride that fast, and you have to slow for curves etc as well. Also, on this ride there is a rough section for about 20 km at the north end of the lake where the speed will be down to about 20 to 25 kph. If we only average 40 kph the moving time will be close to 10 hours. There will be stops along the way and we'll be stopping in Pemberton for lunch so a reasonable estimate of stop time will be about 2 to 3 hours, if nothing goes wrong. That means we'll be taking about 12 to 13 hours for the trip from the Sasquatch and back. Add a couple of hours, or more, for the trip to the Sasquatch and back home again and it adds up to a long day. The good news is that a substantial portion of this ride is on flat, straight FSR where you can safely ride 80 to 90 kph. I know because according to my GPS I've had the Beta over 130 kph on this road with no problems. But we won't be asking anybody to ride nearly that fast on Sunday. The only places where you'll be expected to go 80 to 90 kph will be the flat straight sections, and we'll be slowing down to a safe speed for the corners; nobody will be expected to cross it up on the curves, wheely or jump over cross ditches, or need good motocross technique to keep up. All that's required is the ability to speed it up a bit when the road is flat and straight and you can see for a long ways. The intent is to get the average speed up to about 50 kph which will cut about 2 hours off the ride time. It's not that hard to get the average speed up to 50 kph and at the end of the day the 2 hours saved makes a big difference.

Most of the route from the north end of the lake to Pemberton is like a highway. Long, wide, smooth straight sections with good sight lines. About the only thing that can slow you down there is dust, and there probably won't be any of that as the forecast shows just enough moisture for dust control.

Should be a great ride. Wish I could go...:(
