Re: deuce's class action thread

A friend of mine operates a car lot in Maple Ridge, specializing in vehicles brought up from the USA, mostly purchased at Dealer only Auto auctions, mainly in California, specifically in the LA area. This class action suit is for real and it's also against some of the Automotive companies.

He told me the other day that as far as he knows, Volvo have instructed their US dealers to refuse Canadians who want to buy a new Volvo. BMW charges the same $500 for a letter on one of their cars but it doesn't bother him much because apparently BMWs and Mercedes carsneed a lot of work to comply with Canadian law.

A few years ago, there was a waiting list for Fat Boys and Road Kings in the USA. People up here were buying them and then selling for a nice profit in the USA and that was when our dollar was around .65. Harley dealers here. were issued a form by Trev Deeley Imports that the buyer had to sign, stating that the buyer would not sell the bike within one year of purchase. I believe Ford did something similar with their bigger trucks, like F-350s etc. The legality of the form is highly doubtfull.

I also have manufactures from the USA and they were taking part of the hit because of the low CDN dollar. In turn we agreed not to sell the product back to the USA (we were paying less than our USA counterparts) The other option was to charge us the same price as the USA dealers, not good.

The legality of the form is doubtful but look at the option. I think thesame thing was happening in the automotive market.

I don't understand your reply. Am I thick or are you?

It's obvious.Manufacturer's/Distributors were using our low dollar to boost their

retail value on their products. Now that we are at par and NAFTA keeps evolving, the Canuck distributors and or dealers refuse to accept the currency difference.

YOUR attitude suggests to me that someone gave you a helluva deal on a Bavarian bike.

I'm being objective here. Are you?

Correct me if I am wrong, are you taking a shot at me?

You have made two posts on this site, you don't like Trev Deely, Volvo, BMW, Ford. Then you call me thick, as well as having an attitude. To top it off you say I've been bought. Seems you know a lot more about me and my dealings than I do about you. Why don't you tell us a little more about yourself and why your here?

First of all, I asked a question. I NEVER accused you of being thick. Get your facts straight........please. It really doesn't matter what I type out because you won't let the facts play out because this forum is your "Look at me, I'm the Dual Sport Guru".

I have no bitch with you but I've seen how you flip flop from what you think is the latest and greatest dualsport out there. You got a deal from PacYam/BMW. WHY?

An other thing I don't understand, is that you were stepping away from being the head honcho on this forum. Now,am I correct in this? It sure seems you still control what's said and what isn't, as clearly evidenced by deuce's thread. And you won't even say, "I was wrong".

Great morals you have.

BMW have been screwing around buyers before you even heard of this!! Dual Sporting was around and a very loose community before you even got into it.

Just once, it would be nice to see you be a normal off road or even on road person who didn't think they had to prove something.

BTW, it was really nice of you NOT to give the original bus owners a token amount for scrap when you sold it. Have fun in the dunes and we'll have to hear about your injury for another year.

Guess what? Some of us break bones and we don't make a big deal about it, unlike people who have some mental problem that means they need the attention.

Buck up sonny boy. If ya can't play with the big dogs, stay on the porch.

All of my dealings with Tom both professionally and personally have been nothing but pleasant. When I inquired about advertising on the site Tom was professional and acted in the best interest of the club.

If you don't like how your local dealer treats you don't buy there. Capitalism is a wonderful thing because it's all based on choice. Vote with your dollars. BMW et al are in business to make money not bikes. Economics 101:ted:

I think its a joke that you feel the need to attack someone on a message board.

And now your cutting into my riding time

ban him

dirtdoug out.

I think what he meant to say was "Congratulations on your new bike. Hope that you really enjoy it" :hb:

Thats what I think he meant anyway.

I would say no response is the best response here.

The down and up dollar is certainly annoying. I think all the manufacturers would like it if the dollar was locked in. It's hard to raise car prices when the CAN $ drops that fast. Then drop it when it goes up.

It effects the used market, the lease values on return, makes everyone time their purchases with the $.

I think this is why manufacturers try to have factories all around the world. Try to become less effected by currency fluctuations. Even in our industry we lost alot of US employees and now Canada is the target of workforce reductions. Key, like I said, is to spread your costs and customer base internationally. Then pick a price that the market can pay, and hope the $ don't bounce up and down like stock KLR front forks.
