When me and my regular riding gear hit the scale we displace 250lbs. This makes my klr squat badly and makes it difficult to properly set up this rig.

So I'm looking to stiffen things up, don't need performance suspension just less sag.Cost is a big factor.
Any ideas??

Your sag (squat) is determined by the spring rate and the preload ring that you can wind down at the top of the spring. These preload rings dont do much at all. You will have to find out (from a dealer?) what pound rating spring you have, and what you will need for your weight including gear. Ebay may be a good place to get one after you find out. There must be some KLR forums with lots of info as well.

The least expensive solution is to make a set of raising links.

You can get the shock rebuilt and re-springed by Sasquatch Suspension but the cost is about the same as buying a new Progressive Suspension 465 or 420 shock. Maybe you can get a spring from Sasquatch and have someone local install it. The best and most expensive solution is get a Cogent "Moab" shock. They will build the shock to suit your application.

All you need is a spring Bill. You will have to remove your shock from the bike to install it on the shock.

I upgraded to a Top Gun spring last season. It is simple to remove the shock. I took the new spring and the shock to the local Kawasaki dealer who couldn't figure out what to do with it. I took it to a GM mech shop and they didn't have a spring compressor that would fit. Third try was the charm, I took it to an independent vehicle mechanic who had a spring compressor and I had it done in 10 minutes for a $10 contribution to the shop's beer fund!

Much better ride with the new spring in!
