Hey spc, it is just bureaucratic nonsense! If a bike is safe enough to go 100 mph in Baja or do triple jumps on a motocross track it is safe enough for me anywhere. Again, it is not about safety. Which is safer? A guy riding a 120HP crotch rocket with his girlfriend on the back, both in flip flops and shorts, or a guy on a RUM bike with all the gear? How about a 20 yr. old compliant bike that has never been maintained, or a brand new well maintainedconverted RUM bike. This type of legislation/enforcement is useless as far as safety is concerned. As for helmets, people choose uncertified ones all the time! Harley riders wear helmets that say not approved right on the label. The police don't seem to care as long as they have something on their head.
