Excuse while I ramble with continued verbal diareah because I am bored....Yeah, it all comes down to your personal riding style and what feels good. All these bikes are very capable in the right hands. For example, pretty well any guy you find on a KTM950 is a great rider. Just something I have noticed.

I personally have never had an issue with power on my KLR. But then I'm not aggressive. But if the 610 is more responsive and lighter, that must be good. The tank needs to be bigger and that seat can't be comfy for all day riding. Reliability is very important to me as you need to maximize your riding time and minimize your shop time in the summer.

You could say the 610 is the best all around or the nothing of anything. It's all in where you draw the lines between the classes. It needs to do a job. Sales will be the big indicator and they sound brisk. Although will probably never match a KLR but that is because the KLR sells to a bigger demographic. Now we will see if the used market fills up with them, like the ducati's.

I would love to ride one. I think I would personally love it. It definately seems like a bike that would give a good first impression.

Is it fair to say my KLR is my best friend while a 610 would be my bitch?:wi::)

No, you'd need the 450/510 as 'the bitch' !!:tup:The 610's a bit too much of an alrounder to make a good 'bitch' !! (unless you're other bike's a cruiser!):hb:

oooops i forgot the most important part of all, how could i do that.

Since he is on the vastly superior bike, and i am an obviously crappy rider since i chose to buy and like a meer piece of shit like a kawasaki.

The husky rider should beat me in by at least 3 or 4 hours......so i like my beer havy and very very cold, so say a 6 pack of Guiness, just above the freezing point please....and my steak thick cut and cooked to med rare.

My potatoes with ALL the fix'ns and a comfy chair to rest my sore butt would be appreciated to....it will give you a little something to do while you wait hours and hours for me and the COUCH to finally arrive. :hb:

Cheers, and thanks for the help at the end of next years DZ....I know joker and crew will appreciate the extra help......since you should be done by about 11am on the super machine , they will graciously hand over the BBQ tongs i am sure. :br:

At least!

I do ride with other klr650's as well, but usually not 4 of them all at once....so i stil get wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more out of riding with someone on their te.

I am usually very humbled though, and get an over whelming urge to bow a lot, and offer to wash their feet.....since the yare closer to God than i could ever hope to be riding a measly crappolla klr.:)

Sorry you are incorrect.....the GOD of all things bike related MR.5thgear has spoken.

He has told you and should not need to repeat himself, now should he...the te 610 is the best bike made....the suspension is in the leagues of a works bike....its so light and flickable i bet it could eat a KX250 on a motocross track....and at 80 rip snortin HP at the mere twist of your wrist, it chews a dunlop 606 bald in one run up thru the gears i bet.

I am so blessed to be allowed to follow in the dust of these machines....i get a tear in my eye as i bow to their superiority.

Actually my riding skills are underachieving, the bike is fine. I guess thats the beauty of being new to the sport. I wouldn't know the subtledifference between a K.L.R. or a 610. The important thing to me is to get out and ride . :)

I don't have a KLR or a 610.

My Brother in Ottawa has an 05 KLR with 40,000 plus trouble free km. He has ridden it to Vancouver and back. He has gone through eastern Canada and the US on it. It's a great dual sport bike. I was rode it when he came out here last summer.

To be honest, I sure as hell would not want to ride across Canada on it, but then I am used to a larger twin adventure bike (1200GS). I would not want to take my adventure bike very far off road (like no more than 2 feet), but I would go off road with the KLR.

I have never ridden a 610, but I have ridden with a 610. The 610 went were I would not think to take a KLR, IMHO.

I don't know how a 610 would be riding across Canada.

Wow, this thread has really heated up!

I don't think Bill's trying to put down either the KLR or anybody here. I've met Bill, my buddy has bought a bike of him, and he's a normal motorcycle-lunatic like the rest of us. Sure he's enthusiastic about the bikes he sells, and why not, they are very nice machines priced very well. And yeah he does tend to exaggerate regarding Husky performance capabilities ("double the horsepower")- mabey seat of the pants dyno, but take it with a grain of salt.

My take on thedualsport debate is thatthe KLR and TE610 are apples and oranges. The 610 bridges the gap between plated dirtbike and XR650L/DR650-ish. The KLR leans much closer to road bike than these. Yeah a good rider can ride ANY bike almost ANYWHERE, so comparing as to which bike is better than another is pointless. The bottom line is pick the one that works best for you and ride it!

imTRYING to PICK a BIKE!! but somehow,a bunch of KLR fanatics are preventing me from finding out about the characteristics of a HUSKY..ive owned a KLR[06] but want a more capable dirt-oriented bike [KICK-ASS] i tried this summer to trade for a CFRX450 :X andalmost traded for an APRILLIA 450 :?as well..now CONSIDERING the SMR610..i want REAL data, like hp,.handling , wind shear on hwy,top speed, etc, not a bunch of KLR guys extolling the virtues of riding SLOW........:)

Quite right ! Refer to my first post, it's fair and unbiased because I have (or have had)all the bikes mentioned. Good luck.

There is only one real way to know if you will like one. Take it for a ride. When I was moving up from my XT 350 I took both a friends DR650 & DRZ400 for a ride and knew exactly which one I was going to buy. Just waiting for my buddy to break in his 610 so I can take it for a rip.

But remember the golden rule when you borrow something. If you break it you buy it

dude, don't take things so personally...

after my klr got stolen, i did a lot of research on which bike to buy next. i'm not really a fan of the styling on the new klr's, drz 400 is a great bike but i wanted something bigger (my klr was jetted and piped and it ripped pretty good), a honda? well, everyone has a honda.

i did a lot of research on the husky 610 before i bought it. brembo brakes, marzocci forks, fuel injected, great style, great price, plus they're not that common. although i haven't ridden it yet i have no regrets and am very happy i bought one on deposit at 5th gear.

as ianb mentioned the lighting for night riding is an issue but easily fixed.

my klr had 27,000km and has never let me down. it was a great bike, but heavy, bad brakes, and took a lot of work to get it enough h.p. the 610 seems like it rocks right out of the box! (from what i've heard on other forums)

i guess it just depends on your style...:dude:

I just found it funny actually, that he thinks the klr is only for newbies....lmfao

the 08 klr is vastly improved over the previous klrs....better brakes, wheels, lighting, smoother, suspension is wayyyyyy better, i seriously find it needs 1 tooth lower up front gearing and more aggressive tires to make it rip.

Next years deadzone i hope the guy at 5th gear brings his 610 and will race me....not a friendly stroll around it, lets do say the b route and leave at the same time, and the first bike in wins...I ride reguraly with two 610's this summer, and it was a waiting game a lot of the time for them to catch up.....so with the vast power and handling, i am shocked it was not them waiting on me is all.

OK I'll race you no problem at all.

The 610 real world dyno is 50 to 52 hp.

KLR 650 between 28 and 32

Honda CRF 450R modified ( pipe and jetted ) around 47 hp.

DRZ 400 SMR 28 hp average.

If you don't believe the numbers call Bill at Future Cycle. He's 3 doors down from us and dynoes bikes all the time.

The new 2008 Husky 610's will be in in a week. If anyone has a video camera and a KLR or any other brand. Let's line them up and race. It's all in the name of product testing.
