I'm in the fall ride was my first organized ride and it was a great time. Texting the other Island boys right now to see if we can get a few guys lined up. Any other islanders want to convoy over on Saturday?

We sold the 2000 WR400 and the CRF150 last year and picked up an '02 650 Dakar andan '05 650 GS. Talked to the guys who were working the bike show booth at Tradex and sounds like the newbie ride would be a good place for my wife and I to get our feet wet with the new bikes and see what is reasonable to do with them. Plan to do mostly street but game to give the dirt a try.

Count the two of us in!

It sounds like a great starting place for me as a noobie off-road rider. Can anyone suggest what to bring to this event in the way of tools, specific riding gear, etc? Will a full-face street helmet be OK? I ride a KLR 650 (which I'll be riding from North Van to the staging area), so I'm wondering if tank or saddle bags are good ideas or more of a set-back. I've done a few solo logging road rides over the years, but nothing too gnarly, and nothing where I've likely been properly equipped for mechanical failures.
Unfortunately I can't make it to the Flat Tire Social which would be of great interest and education to me, but is there likely to be an opportunity for me to talk to someone there about the basics of such a repair? I'm sure it's one of those things that by coming out to a bunch of rides, one learns what one needs to know, but I still try to pick up the formal lessons whenever I can.

and welcome to the site.:tup:

Your street helmet is fine. A tank bag is fine. Saddle bags are up to you. It's nice to have the carrying space, but are they heavy? Are they bags or cases. Either way, they should be fine for the "C" ride.

Bring a spare tube(s) and tools to change a tire. If just one tube, make the front. That way you can use it on the front or back.

Riding jacket, pants, gloves, boots and googles or glasses. Dress in layers, so when you get hot, to can peel off your layers of clothes.

And water and some stuff to snack on during the stops.

P.S.

Water proof riding gear is nice, or a rain suit.
