The GPS track is for the entire route, this was the Nubie Ride so there is the main route with harder options, all should be ridable by newer riders with a little experiance

The gate

CFB Chilliwack has tenure on the road and that allows them to put a locked gate on it if they have good reason. (which they do) My understanding is that they have to open it if requested by someone (like us) but they have refused so far. They have no right to keep us off the road, but they have guns and we dont (and if we have guns then they have bigger ones.)

Lots of trails around the gate, the ez route is marked with Blue Arrows, they should still be up. The ez route bypasses the mud hole

The Newbie Ride was a great event, thanks to all who put so much time in so the rest of us could just show up and ride. :hb:

I filmed my ride on the 'ol helmet cam, there is footage of some of the "hard" option stuff as well as the "normal" route.

What helmet cam do you use?
I've been looking into them and can't quite bring myself to drop $600 or so on one of those POV1 cams (don't tell me that's what you've got)...

Dan,

I was the blue DRZ that was right behind you. I could not tell for sure but it just looked like you front tire slide to the right and started the motion and then you where down.

I went into panic mode on how to stop and not run you over with out a complete imitation of you move.

Judy, Tom and all those behind the scenes, you pulled off another great newbie ride! Starting off with an excellent breakfast, a terrific turn out, fabulous sunshine and meeting old and new friends, it could not have been better.

Thank you for the trail markings and being at the critical points to help. It was a most enjoyable day.

A special thank you to the Christian Motorcycle Club for getting up really early to prep breakfast and setting up breakfast table/chairs.

And another special thanks to Pacific Yamaha/BMW for sponsoring the lunch and thanks to all the BBQ cooks.

everything seemed all right at the time but a couple km later my bike started making death noises and then ceased to run

I got it running and headed for pavement but at some point it completely gave up running and for a few minutes it acted as though the engine was seized and it wouldnt even turn over

luckily a good samaritan with a truck got me and my bike back to the parking lot.

I checked spark, fuel, and compression and couldnt find any reason for the bike not to run.

I loaded the bike into the truck and was waiting for lunch but decided I should probably get to the hospital for some xrays.

So here I am with a bike that wont run, my right hand in a cast againt with a broken thumb, and a brace on my left wrist for a bad sprain.

I might need to find a new hobby, this one hurts too much

Sounds like you already know the answer. Yeah it's a Pov1. I had a coupon for Bikebandit a while ago when they had them 25% off. In the end I got it for $430 US.

I had been waiting a while for the price to drop and lemme tell ya, it was worth the wait. Awesome unit. I've already bashed it, covered it in a mud, etc and it doesn't miss a beat. I love the loop function too.

yeah I'm sure I hit a rock that I did not see. It kicked hard to the right, hence the broken thumb, then I was in the snow with no traction whatsoever and I was down, hard on my left hand, hence the sprained wrist

the bike not running anymore is stilla mystery, no damage to anything, and initially it ran just fine. coincidence I'm guess, it sounded like the motor was coming apart, but it only has 5000km on it.

thanks all for a great ride, it was great, even after my crash it was good until the bike started acting up

Sometimes injury are apart of off roading. Speedy recovery Dan. I practiced getting away from the bike when I went down. No fun wacking the wrists. Maybe consider a steering damper.

Lots of fun for all types of riders.

There were alot of brave souls out there that day especially the fellow who followed me to the mud pit and got left in there stuck knee deep. I really did not think that you would have done it with those tires you had on. Death Wings? Glad you had that rack so that Neil could pull you out. Great Pics too. Something to brag about. I thought that we should have sent the whole bunch through and all have a great laugh!

Are you able to use it as a "day-to-day" cam at all?(i.e. filming the kids growing up,etc...). If I could to that, I might be able to sway the wife
I think the problem might be that the POV1 don't have an image stabilizer, so the image might get shakey?

Ssurfer, my family uses our nice canon point and shoot and the pov for capturing all our family-related activites. Works good for us. The pov has other uses in the home as well, ie the bedroom. Not sure about the image stabilization, but like i said, works good for me.

Great job on the video. Looks like a professional promotional video for dsbc. I missed you on the ride day, my riding buddy was in a rush to leave so we had lunch and left right away.

Very cool video! That looks very professional.I was just hoping that nobody had noticed my little "incident"sliding down that sand ramp in that gravel pit or whatever it was.....Next year I'll make it to the top!Awesome ride!!:clap:

Sorry about your towing experience. The funny thing is, after the Newbie ride, I rode out to Chilliwack Lake area and then went back to Chilliwack for dinner before heading back home to North Van. On the way back along Hwy#1, I saw you pulled over by the cop on the side. I saw you throw your hands out to your sides as though saying "Why me?!?". I figured you'd been on the group ride, but wasn't sure cuz it was fairly late in the day. Crazy coincidental moments eh?! Anyway, hope all is well now and that you're prepping for you next off-road adventure!
