:hijacked

The worst part of it is having the DOT guys make ya hit the brake just as ya get going off the scale.

I watched the loaded b-train in front of me and when ur work mate hit the STOP light on the sign board(so ya'll could check the brake lights) that trailer braking system went into possible over stressing situation. I think that sort of thing could cause brake component failure down the road.

I know u guys are doing ur jobs....but in all the scales I have crossed that is the only one that does that.

Sorry for the rant and Hi-Jak.......and I'd still drink beer and coffee with ya SPC :hb:

It's not so much that they are applying the brakes, but that they are told to STOP(read as keep that axel on the scale) so they put the brake pedal to the floor and it locks the brakes on the truck...what does a loaded semi weigh, 60,000lbs?...there is a lot of twisting that goes on there! They are only mechanical parts and I think it severly loads the brake components for no reason. How many times have u seen a semi's shattered brake drum laying on the side of the hi-way?
Hey I could be wrong , but ride ur bike on the pavement in say 3rd or 4th gear at 60 kph. Then hold the throttle full on and start popping the clutch 15 or 20 times while hitting red line(shock load the drive train)....lets see if something gives.

This is just from a mechanic's point of view.

Am I allowed to hi-jack my own thread?? lol

Edit: Hey SPc, don't be too hard on me tomorrow knight when I go over the scales again! :help

Thank you for the information. Let's not forget that the speed limit at the scales is only 10kph.

We should go for coffee some day and I can tell you about the adventure I had last Friday with a “professional” driver.

I was working radar in the Knutsford area and got a commercial vehicle at 111 kph in the 80 kph zone. I followed the vehicle to the Knutsford brake check and approached the driver. When I requested his DL he said his driver’s licence was suspended. He made a phone call and I heard him say that he was parking the truck. He then walked down the highway. I attempted to talk to him but he refused to co-operate. He climbed down the bank and disappeared into the bush.

I phoned the RCMP for assistance and a member attended.

The driver's foreman came back from Merritt at this time, saw his vehicle at the brake check with my vehicle and a RCMP vehicle and stopped to see what was happening. We got the names of three possible drivers from him. One driver had a suspended driver’s licence. The second driver had his driver’s licence on hold and had outstanding warrants. The third driver had his driver’s licence flagged to issue a prohibition notice.

We found the driver later that evening and I was able to identify the driver. It was the third driver. He received a number of charges and lost his driver’s licence.

It was an interesting shift. I was sorry when it was over and I had to go home!

I phone you guys occasionaly at night spc to report dangerous loads ie b trains weaving all over the road with a load of lumber that has shifted way over.
And I run into alot of truck accidents throughout the winter that are preventable.
Question though (this is coming from friends asking these questions) why is there no chain up pullout at the bottom of cardeau hill? same go's for highway 24?
I have to deal with some of these lazy highway truckers that refuse to put chains on when there stuck 3 wide on cardeau hill or blocking westbound traffic on the coq from moving because either they don't know how to put them or refuse to.
Can't you guys hand out fines to some of these fools?
Oh it's going to be a long dark winter (rant over)

Sorry. I forgot to answer.

I do not know why there is no chain up area on these highways.

When we find someone blocking the highway we write a ticket under MVA 144 (1)(b)

Drive without consideration, $196 and 6 points.
