The video is a great tool for newbies developing their trail skills. Since my goal, for this Sunday, is to get up to the snow level on Windy Knob and back down again without dropping the bike, I'm going to pass on Parish Hill for a while. I appreciate the heads up though.

How high is the snow on Windy Knob?

What snow?
Let me rephrase, There is likely snow up there but not much. Makes me wonder about some of the passes. There is no snow on the cut at the coast and baker is the only thing white out this way!
Seams the long big bike rides might open early :) There is no south facing snow out here under 4000' for sure.
When I was at the church lookout a few weeks ago, where there should have been 6' of the white stuff there was but a few inches of hard pack

John there is a short piece at the top that does not see any sun and is like goose grease on a big bike. Theres only a little snow left but its turned to ice.

Hey Scott, I wanted to use the Windy Knob loop as part of the C+ route for the upcoming newbie ride but when Paintingpeter made his post about getting up to the snow level on windy knob I got a little concerned that maybe it wouldn't work out. So, are you saying that there is no snow on Windy Knob? I sure hope so. In any case I'll be out there tomorrow to check it out.

I'm also thinking about using the Mt Mercer loop near Chipmunk Creek, anybody have any info about snow levels there? I won't be taking the C+ riders over the goat trail, just up the gnarly trail and then back down the FSR to the east of it. It was suggested that I route the course up the FSR and down the gnarly side but I think it's too easy for an inexperienced rider to get out of control and have a nasty crash on a downhill like that. I'll be checking that out tomorrow too, or perhaps on Tuesday when Offworlder and I work on the route

I'm also going to check out the report about the Veddar Mtn perimeter road being gated shut just off the Majuba Hill entrance. It'll suck if that road is closed. We could always go in from the Parmenter road side and then come back over the top of Veddar but I think that might be a little too technical for the C+ riders and definitely too tough for the C riders and especially for the adventure riders on their big bikes.

Judy, if you're reading this, is there anything you want us to check out for the C/Adventure route over the next few days?

Thanks Ron, you made your post while I was answering Scott.

I'll take a look at it tomorrow and see how bad it is. Hopefully it'll melt over the next three weeks.

Yeah, I'm thinking Kookipi must be clear as well as West Harrison, only one way to find out for sure. I'll be going on some rides over those passes just as soon as we get the upcoming Newbie ride sorted out. Lots of big bike adventure routes to take this year.

Scott, are you going to the GVMC Routledge run this July in Oliver? They have a big adventure bike course and last year it was a lot of fun - did it on my CB500X. Old Phart and I are gonna do it again this year, be great if we could get some more DSBCers involved.

Farp windy knob has snow and ice on it it is passable east to west, this route is unsuitable for c or c+ plus riders. My 2 cents.

I was there last sunday (big bike) Just didn't like the ice much, but with every warm day passing that ice should thin out.

I'll be checking things out for the C EZ Adventure route on Sunday. I'll probably see you out there somewhere. Since you're checking the gate situation on Vedder I'll wait for you to fill me in on that.

I'll check in at the Tamahi Staging area before I go home. Maybe see you there between 3 and 4.

I was up on Laughington yesterday, and the snow covered the road at around 1200m.
This was on the hillside with Northeastern exposure, so it's probably not getting much sun at this time of year. I suspect it will be the same on most hills.

SnowWindyKnob.jpgThis is on Windy Knob, before the first lookout and the little trail that winds off to the right. I did achieve my goal of getting here and back down without dropping the bike! That's a win!

How does this trail relate to the other side of Windy Knob past the lookout?
It shows as red on the map, but I'm wondering how to compare this to other trails before I try them and get myself in trouble.

I'm wondering if the run of the river project at BIG silver will have that route still available for us.... Sure hope so!!
As far as the windy knob east side down. I have taken this route on the 1200 gs.. Had to walk it down the steep decent as you can't turn off the abs to the front wheel :( 990 was no problem, but that feeling of total loss of control sucked on the 'superior' bike..As Tom says, "any one can fall down the hill"

These videos are a terrific catalogue of all the trails I need to avoid for a while :)
One step (trail) at a time. Keep up the good work.
