All this worry is for nothing.

The Government knows what best for us, just sit back and let them do their job. :)

I think the point is to be aware of what is happening, but don't get bent out shape about what might happen. :ted:

Today we live and ride like the Wind through the Mountains. :ss::dr:

Tomorrow, as it should be, is still a Mystery.:hr:

Let the sleeping dog sleep....do not stir the pot.

Worst case the RUM becomes home brew... uh built. or will they make us all conform to transport canada certification...then we all will need the real rum:hb:

I keep a couple of '89-96 DT200's just for some smokin DS legal fun:clap::p:p

Called both ICBC and Motor vehicle inspector of B.C. to get the facts on "RUM" DS'ed motorcycles......here they are:
:ted:
ICBC Phone number:1-800-663-3051 :talk:

They don't care if the bike was a "RUM" as long as it passed inspection.

Motor vehicle inspector:passenger transport branch

Phone number:1-888-453-4280 :talk:

The problem is at the dealer inspection level,"RUM" bikes shouldn't be passed.

BUT...this is where it gets confusing-----new regs ARE coming out..BUT at the mc dealer inspection level....BUT no time table has been for this:tup:.

There are "NO" plans to give enforcement orders to DOT inspectors or to ICBC to pull current "RUM" bikes off the road now or in the future:tup::dr:.

The biggest worry they have with the bikes are fuel systems and the frame:shoot:.

There will be no grandfathering of current "RUM" bikes:X....but like I said before, they don't know when the regs are coming out and there biggest concern is at the mc dealer level not at the enforcement level:tup:.

So in closing all I can say is if you do want to convert your bike DO ITnow before the new regs come in at the mc dealer level. You could enjoy the ridefor 1 day or 20 years, everyone knows how the government "works" at the best of times:mi:.Looks like I will probably wear my bike out before the regs change anyways, if they do at all.

Anyways that's my rant for today it's :cf2:time...everyone have a great day :ss:in motorcycle land.

Hey dude..look on the vin plate on your klx 300..it will say "RUM" or restricted use motorcycle.

I thought anyone who owned a dirt bike would know this common term...guess I was wrong.

If it currently has a plate or had a plate you should be able to just transfer it andrenew the insurance and platebut it may have been registeredas a restricted use vehicle or for off road use only. Check with ICBC and see if they will sell you a plate and insurance for it,if so then you are good to go. If not, you will have to go through the inspection process with no guarantee you will get a plate.

I wouldn't complete the deal untilI hadinsurance and aplate in hand.

May I also point out on the issue of plastic fuel tanks that over the years there have been a number of cages (cars) with plastic tanks - including the Jeep YJ and IIRC, the TJ. plastic can be welded and bonded as easily or easier than metal - safer!

So buddy at sg power was going off about dual sported non factory bikes.
Says the cops come to see him weekly and that he has a letter in hand saying as of Jan.1.2010 they will be pulling all rum dualsported bikes and not allowing further registration.
This came from the owners son, he took it very seriously and was a total wad about it. That is part of the concern, is that dealerships take it just as easily as the public does. I personally won't step foot in that shop again just because of the attitude towards the issue.
In the meantime, enjoy the ride it's awesome out there. :hb:

If he has a letter in hand, can you get a photocopy of it and post it on here? Having some hard evidence one way or the other on this would be great.

I wasn't the one that spoke to him it was roadkill for BF4x4
He was pretty animated about though but I called them a year ago and got a similar story. Personally I think they are part of the problem.
Dealers, manufacturers, aftermarket suppliers and all the parts suppliers need to get on board along with the entire riding community to let the powers the be know it's ridiculous and senseless legislation. The idea that an inspected and passed motorcycle is any less safe then a factory one makes no sense at all.
Just one more bit of evidence that proves there is less and less common sense and responsibility being left in your hands. From our crown lands, rivers, industry, businesses, housing, banking and even our personal family lives are being determined by government. I know it's a bit of a rant but when is enough enough.
We really need to take a stand on the issues that we believe in or we have nothing to complain about after the fact.

The inspection you are referring to is a superficial inspection of a vehicle. It is not at all as intensive as the inspection that a vehicle must be put through before it is allowed to be sold by a manufacturer as a road vehicle. If it was as easy to get a vehicle approved for road use as you say then ALL manufactures of dirt bikes would throw signal lights on their dirt bikes and have hundreds of dual sport bikes for us to choose from.

Have you compared the BC Inspection Manual inspection with the inspection required by Transport Canada for the approval of a vehicle for use on a highway?

So you saying that because federal regulations are more stringent then a provincial ones a machine engineered for extreme offroad abuse using dot equipment is less safe then a machine engineered for road duty?
what are you saying exactly? Take my bike for instance how does it differ from a DRZ-400 they are the identical bike it even is labeled as such on the vin tag.
I don't understand the total lack of logic applied here.
A 1932 Ford or hardtail indian would not meet current regulations but it's street legal.
If the superficial inspection is so crucial to public safety that they will not allow the vehicle to be registered and insured how can it not be a valid inspection?
We need to see the data on which this legislation is being pushed forward.
How many of these superficially inspected dirt bikes have caused accidents or danger to the public at large.
The system on which this is being based is totally foolish.
I've been riding bikes my entire life, I'm not the best rider but I can tell you right now my dirt bike it's 100 times safer then a ducati 948 piloted by any shmuck with the extra money to buy one with 0 riding experience, however there is no talk of laws be changed to ensure that can't happen.

I just don't see the logic behind it, or how text book comparisons impact anything.

And where did I say it was easy to get a vehicle approved?
I'm thinking we need to see hard evidence the proves it's not.

I wouldn't worry about this. Because I read that the world is ending Dec.31.2009

Anyways, my 530 exc-r is street legal, but my Husky 610 is a RUM bike. The whole thing makes no sense.
