I thought some more about the "fuel and "frame issues quoted from the discussion with MOT.Let's take a couple of "high end" street legal DS bikes, the new BMW X-challenge 450, and the BMW HP2. Both of these bikes have woefully inadequate tank capacity, and since there are nogood options for a larger tank, riders carry fuel in strap on containers, that is if they want to ride anywhere that is really off-road and out of the way. Just how safe are loose (plastic) cans of gasoline????
Any serious Ds'd bike I've seen has a bolted down, oversize tank.By the way, in the marine world, flexible plastic bladder tanks are approved for this use and are installed inboard.
MOT/ICBC won't have a good technical argument, but we had better do somework putting together good counter argumentswhen they raise any other issues. If we do this right, we canrestrict anypotential non-compliance issues to maybe a minimal retrofit and re-inspection,to continue street-legal status.
