Ok I have been following this thread quietly but I can't hold back any more!!!

What's all the talk about racing a ktm 950, a hp2, and a klr? what a group of slugs. Why don't we race Winnebago's while we are at it? Oh I know we can throw in a couple of dorks on custom Harley's that think they are fast too.

I really think most of the Dualsport guys need to stop drinking while they are on this forum. It really seems to affect their judgement. It might be the fact that it has been raining for 30+ days and most of us haven't ridden and we are starting to go stir crazy. I meanhow else could you think KLR's could win a race against any thing other than a Vespa.;)

now as for Hooligan. I usually enjoy your ability to stirr it up a little. I know I have had many a chuckle reading posts you are involved in. that being said what is this about the 24 hour marathon?? don't you mean the 12 hour marathon as I do believe you packed up and left looooooong before the mud fest had ended. That's right you never know who is watching.:pRocke

Oh If we are racing up some little hill on the island for pinks count me and my CRF450X in.
All in good fun, Yours truly

The 24/12 hour marathon....Clarification::tup:You boys are confusing DIRT bikes with DUAL SPORT bikes.:hb:

I think I was on the smallest team (grand total of 3), all on real bikes not little put put 450's and smaller..:mb:We all had at least 600cc to deal with, we did the B course for about 2 hours when one of my team mates decided we are heading for a ....:wi:...through the night. We then changed along with other teams also on putput's....

Being 3 members on real bikes we had our work cut out....:tup:20 minutes on 40 off etc....then after 7pm and my 3rd official warning.....yeah, for speeding can you imagine that, I thought it was a race. I was also penalised for lapping the course too fast,I decided this was no more fun....:(...at this point I decided to retire to a good bottle of PORT. My SMALL team was placed 2nd at this stage, thanks to us being able to hande the real bikes and keep the name of the real DUAL SPORT BIKES high.:tup:After all any one can get onto a feather light dirt bike and buzz around a dirt track...whooopty dooooo;)

You all know I am on a KTM, and no it did not breakdown but I have been experiencing some bad gas after filling with a dirty can earlier that day.....

However, having said all that....I did not see one BMW within 100 miles of that track....:wi:..wonder why not? I saw plenty of putput's, but then again if you can't keep a big bike on the dirt I guess you try something smaller until to find something small enough that you could live with.:mb::mb::mb::mb::mb::mb:...or is that a DIRT bike...?:wi:

I look forward to a real DUAL SPORT team this year...with decent bikes, no not putput's but real DUAL SPORT bikes that has actually seen some km's (and no not on the back of your truck) but a bike that left Vancouver and covered say 10000km in 2 weeks. Or that has actually seen foreign soil, not with luggage on a chase vehicle and not sleeping in a Hotel......

BMWNutt I would consider it an honour to team up with you on that HP2 in my team this year, how about it? We could break some speed records:hb:I think we should have a DSBC600+ team....

Like I always say, what is the best dirt bike onroad, and the best road bike offroad?......yes, a couple of you got that right....a KTM....:shoot:

LET THE GAMES BEGIN......(if you can't handle the heat, don't get involved here..) ...and please don't bitch from the side line....:dr::dr::dr::tup::tup:

Hoolie; you & your mates were very cool to participate on those big trailies at the Marathon. Too bad you didn't have more friends (to participate:D). But to be clear; you were tagged for speeding on the C loop...

Rocke; many excellent points made (without even mentioning all the wild trails you've done on your own GS). But let's not forget that you (on your CRF450X)and your Team Grizzly buddies entered as a 'B-Course' team at the Marathon. Hey sandbagger, go tighten your spokes!

Nutter; you have truly taken the high road in not pointing out that each of the Factory KTM's in the Dakar had new engines installed during the rest day, just like last year, and the year before...

Evil69; glad to read you're enjoying the humour in these posts. There were reports of observers taking the banter in some of the threads to heart and pm'ing/complaining to Tom. All good light internet fun among friends. :hb:

All going to prove that thisBrand Loyalty is pretty darned narrow-minded and foolish. Cultists!

When and Where???... I could most certainly be talked into a 24hr ride.. If you have any info, pass it along and I'll talk to the boys over here...

I agree with you, a dual sport bike rides to the event, rides the event and then rides home... anyone can trailer a dirt bike around....

BMWnut, Pirate, Kuzzy, Tash, 00Buck, Subman, Sneakybc.... what do you say?

Oy vay..... I'm sure this has already come up somewhere on the board, but I just have to share.....

KTM 950 Super Enduro R ........ that's just SICK!!!!!! I'm sure I couldn't handle it just yet, but gimme a couple years (need atleast that to save up the down payment anyway I'm sure) and that's what I'll be riding!!!! One bad ay-es-es Mo-Fo!!

I gotta say though.... give us a bit of a break on the orange there KTM. They've got some great looks going with the grey/black on the adventures. I'd love to see this in a pure black..... Anyway, not enough to keep it out of my garage. Gimme an hour with the Krylon and it'd look tickedy-booh.

Anyone remember what this thread was about? Tashunka, I agree, this is a cool bike !! My wife would like it too, cause I can see it has provision for some passenger pegs (not mounted) and some side grab handles. At least that's how I'd sell her on it.

Oh, and I think the orange is sexy!! And black rims definitely deliver the wood. But Tash, nothing a couple spraybombs of Krylon paint and it can be any colour you want!!

Cheers!:hb:

Way to bring things back down to a slow boil Mark:clap:. I guess the shots about the 24 hour marathon hit a nerve. Sorry about that just poking fun. Now as far as the sand bagging thing.... I will contest that the B course turned into an A course after all that rain. But Mark, point taken:mb:

For the record I thought the new KTM looks great! I do believe that was the original post.

P.S. My crf 450x is FULLY street legal. It also has a 4 gallon tank so I get a range of over300km. This is really close to the large tanked DRZ400's. ( Yes you KLR gas tanker guys can now snicker at my mere 300+km.) So Yes it is a light weight bike But it doesn't NEED to be trucked to the trails. That being said My a** prefers not to spend more than 8 hours a day on that seat. I wonder if the Corbin off the BMW will fit on the Honda?? I just thought it was a better choice for the 24 hour marathon than my 500lb GS.

pps.Don't hate it because it's RED Bill hate it because it's faster than yours.:mb:

well considering my bike is a 05 xt 225 that holds 2 gal and can only get about 195km to a tank all you guys kick my butt out there!

But I bought it to go riding with my kid, and to get out and have some fun! so far all the guys on the Island have been great as to going places I can keep up (120km/h downhill!LOL) I have had a couple of good shots taken at me and a couple from myself! I gladly take the lead to find the best line as mine I can pick up and carry out of anything. compared to the heavier beasts (KLR) that seem to be every where on the island!

I am not the type to go on the major adventure rides you guys go on, but if anyone want to explore my area of the island I am in!
