"So far the TE310 is better than what I was expecting (this coming from a guy whos last ride was a 10 year old KLX300) but just maybe my expectations are not high enough:tup:

Tom"

Hey Tom,

How about if I move off my DRZ400E? Am I going to be left wanting?

I spent 3 days riding with a buddy of mine, unlike Tom, I'm on a bone-stock (i.e. non-race mode) TE310, my buddy was on a DRZ400 with most of the usual performance mods. When we swapped bikes, he came away grinning ear to ear.

The only place DRZ won was in the coquihalla roll-on test, where my TE topped out long before the DRZ, but again that's without doing the powerup. If you are like the other 99% of owners that put the bike in race mode from day 1, I'm pretty sure you won't be disappointed! And even in my little shootout, what the TE lacked in stock power over the DRZ, it more than made up for in handling. The bike is sooo much lighter and sharper handling, longer travel, on the trail it blows away the DRZ hands down (IMO, and no offense intended to DRZ riders!).

Cheers

The "new style" Acerbis plastic inside mounts for the brush guards are easy to break. I bought a replacement hardware kit for $40 that had metal ones. No problems so far... although I am sure the metal ones will stress the bars more in a lay down... or lean down...

Nice bike... !!!

Soooo....after rideing this thread i was thinking that i really miss to ride some technical stuff and also working on loosing some of my beer belly! :))) Sooo....i went to Pacific Motosports and got a TE310! Now i have to learn how to ride again! :)) Tom, you will be busy with me at the Loose Screw, to teach me the proper way to use it! Now i will finnaly become a REAL ROMANIAC! :))) Cheers!!!

Your right the plastic mounts suck but the rest of the handgard is great. I had an old set of aluminium mounts in the garage and replaced the plastic ones after I broke them, since then no problem

Well I almost bought one used, but it was still too close to what a dealer quoted me for a new one after everything but taxes ($1200 savings). That it had the "Power Up" done, and was out of warranty didn't help either.
Seemed like a nice little bike, that I could've had a lot of fun in the tight stuff with.
I did however find a great deal on a 2011 450EXC (8hrs on the clock, well over $1000 in extras for only $7200!!!!!), and even though it is supposed to be 20lbs heavier than the 310, it sure didn't feel like it.
So while I tried to go Husky, I had to go Orange (just couldn't pass that up).

Cheers

Nothing wrong with orange and you know what they say "there is no replacement for displacement"

Now off to the orange thread with you

New Husky TE 310 owner thanks to you Tom!

Tom,
Thanks very much for your detailed (and ongoing) review of your bike. I was considering buying something similar but your account in part steered me into buying a TE 310 on Saturday. I'm having a blast on this bike, it's a powerful little beast. Goes like a bat out of hell. I'd like to ask a couple of questions. (First off, I'm a complete novice when it comes to dirt bikes, VERY limited experience. 200lbs. dry and 42 years. The bike is uncorked, 50 rear sprocket, with bark busters the only add-on)

1. I might go for the JD kit. Can you really just putt along in tight trails with it? I find the bike just wants to go, and it's quite often too fast for me, especially with my limited experience.
2. If I switch to a different rear sprocket, I know my overall RPM's will go down for a particular speed (good for highway) but my assumption is that also means my minimum speed (at effective RPM's) in the tight stuff also goes up. Is this true? I just want to be able to putt along when necessary until I get more experience.
3. Has anyone found low profile rear signal lights? I've already broken one of the stock signals, and I'm sure the other will be busted soon. I can't find anything online.

Tom if its not too much trouble can I try yours out to see how the JD and gearing feels?

Thanks,
Cam

The JD Powersurge is a no brainer, best 210 bucks you can spend, paticularly if your not a racer and want to trail ride.

Currently I run a 47 tooth rear sprocket, nice compromise, I am able to do 80kph on the pavement and 100kph on the FSRS and still low enought to do the steepest of trails (might have to slip the clutch a little)

3. Has anyone found low profile rear signal lights? I've already broken one of the stock signals, and I'm sure the other will be busted soon. I can't find anything online.
I took the whole rear licence plate holder and turn signals off right from day one, but I do most of my riding off of the pavement

Hi Tom and Cam, I just thought I would let you know we have a special going on the JD fuelers right now for all of the huskys. We are offering free shipping in the US ( I have several canadian customers that use US address) or up front discounts on the units themselves. Mike Husky NW / Motosportz. (360)422-7727. By the way Tom it is definitely good that you are spending sundays at church. I am going to have to come up and spend a sunday there myself, I haven't been in years.

No need IMO, just need to change the mounting on the stock ones.

I broke one of mine off on my 2nd or 3rd ride too, and also didn't like the ridiculously long mudflap/plate holder as I figured it would be the next to go. Unbolted everything, hacked off the white plastic fin that sticks out the back (to hold the plate holder), removed the plastic spacers on the stock signal lights, and spent a little time with some sheet metal to fold a new bracket to hold just the signals and the plate nice and tight right under the brake light. With the lights butted right up against the plate, the whole thing is actually plenty low profile, haven't hit them since (and I set the bike down embarrassingly often). Only problem I had was a few times the rear wheel hit the plate when I used up the entire rear suspension, but fortunately plates are very flexible, as it turns out :) Now I bend it out a bit further backwards to give better clearance.

I'd imagine it's not 100% in compliance with the law, but haven't had any complaints from the handful of cops I rode past over the summer. I'll try to remember to post up a quick pic when I get home.

Cheers

What is the deal? Or is the deal free shipping?

Stock arrangement:

Same lights but with spacers/stalks removed, mudflap/plateholder removed, and everything held together with a simple folded sheetmetal bracket:

Rode past several cops today, none of them batted an eye, so I guess the flushmount arrangement is still "legal enough" :)
