The chickens are coming home to roost, Tom. Pacific must have read your post and saw the opportunity[/QUOTE]

Pete, you know the rules. He's clearly a 'grounded' opponent and yet you strike anyway.

Oh well, goodness knows the abuse you've already taken from him during your brief stint as an orange.

New Life for the BMW G650x

New Life for the BMW G650x

I ended up breaking a frame section on the bimmer a couple of months ago.

Dont ask how, it just happened. I thought it would be the end of the bike for me, not so.

So now its time to take the big 650 apart and see what needs doing

Here is a picture of the most serious damage that makes the bike unridable
If you look to the left of the footpeg you will see a bent peice of aluminum, this was a touratech hard part that was to prevent what happenend, obviously it failed at its job.

The damaged parts that need to be replaced, along with the rear swing arm bearings (which I just replaced) I must buy a new frame part about 375.00 and long bolt.

Here is the mounting tab that has broken from the transmission housing, I have discussed with Wally Routledge about welding this and he sez no problem better than new when he is finished.

Below is the sidestand mount, this is the weak or acutually strong part. If you look at the top left of the sidestand mount you will see a little nub, this is the lower position stop for the sidestand, this is the lowest part of the frame. If you are unlucky to hit this part you will break your frame. I have plans to make this much weaker.

The bike as it looks now

The X-Challenge is indeed a Phoenix of sorts ! Mine has also risen again :-D

PS: I'm amazed your willing to tolerate that air shock on the rear, and still havent yanked it for a spring....

BMW G650X Gets a new lease on life

BMW G650X Gets a new lease on life

After more than three years of some pretty hard off road riding it time to get the Bimmer ready for retirement.

The bike will now be given Adventure Duty, no more single track or deep mud holes

Now that we are giving the bike a new job its time for a new look

My first day out just North of Pemberton on Duffy Lake Road

Looks great, what kind of paint was used on the plastics? Will it stand up to scratches?

Leedam from Bike FX painted the bike so its the same paint thats used on the street bikes, what that is I dont know, but it sure looks nice
