Thom - Cool Bike, cool Seat, and very cool transportation.
is the "Skoolie" yours? what have you done as far as inside conversion?
Got any more pictures of that?
I'm working on my 96 Thomas, but not a Toyhauler, just RV conversion and pulling a trailer for the toys.

I had Rich makeme a seat for myFJR, back in 2004. I was able torecover it from my totaledFJRand move it to my replacement 2005 FJR. 800 to 1000 kms, days no problem. I've ridden a SS1000 and BB1500 on theseat,couldn't have made it without the comfort.

I just returned from the Stumpjumpers Desert ride in Odessa Washington. First time out with the new saddle. To be honest I was a little concerned about the width of the seat while riding off road. I am very pleased to say I didn't even notice the seat while riding off road, in fact it was nice when I had a chance to sit I was positioned exactly where I wanted to be.
As you can see from this picture it was a true off road ride lots of single track and some nice technical sections. I have done this ride on A DRZ400 and DR650, The G650 was like taking a walk, natural and smooth. Much better than I would have expected. Having more fun now that I am learning some of the limitations of the bike, might have to crank up the suspension soon.

Just had to report
Did a 200km ride to Chilliwack and back, the X Challenge is one nice highway cruiser with that new seatI think this will make me want to ride from Vancouver to Cabo for next years Baja trip.
Some have commented on what a nice looking seat but, 500 bucks is too much money! Just remember for a vinyl saddle its only 300 bucks and its custom made to fit your butt. :ted:
If I knew what I know now I would have spent the money for a new saddle on my DRZ day one.
This mod gets :tup::tup:

Now that I have had the bike for about 1200 kms, its time to add some more protection. Something that seem the most vulnerable is the radiator.
As you can see from the photos the radiator already has a tweak at the bottom and a couple of other hits. I don't even remember doing anything to do this damage.
So off to Touratech in Seattle to buy a radiator guard. I thought the BMW dealers had the high priced stuff cornered, I was wrong:hr:I must say that even though the accesories are expensive (compared to the stuff I have purchased in the past) The quality and service is second to none..
I Brought My Wallet andpicked upthree items. 1 Rear Rack 2 Rear Fender and 3 Radiator Guard. I cant remember what each individual item was but the whole bill was $400.00 bucks:spl:
Took the crummy plastic cover off and replaced it with this wonderfully engineered protective device. Without a doubt the nicest constructed radiator guard I have ever owned. Bolted right in with all the required mounting parts. It will be ashame to bend this thing all up, but it should keep me mobile in the bush.:tup::tup:

Just returned for the DSBC Vancouver Island Orca Event. A first class bunch of guys over there on the rock that know how to have fun:hb:.
First failure to start happened.
Lucky I had Franz around to help troubleshoot. Turned out that I hit the side stand safety switch the day before and damaged it. This is something I have always removed for my bikes at one time or another. This was another. I have to put in a good work to the mechanic at SM Cycle for taking the time to check the wiring diagrams to let us know what the different wires did. Ended up twisting them (3) together.
Total Downtime 30 Minutes:tup:
So we managed to get out on the trails before the sweep rides left:hf:

The Island guys have to rethink what a B route is
Me doing a dab in the mud hole, didn't fall:hr:but did get a boot full of mud
Quick touch of the magic button and out of the mud hole the bike comes.
This engine on the G650 is tractor like, I wouldn't be surprised if it idles down to less than 400 rpm with no problems. Then with a twist of the throttle it just spins up nice and EZ. Never with my old DR650 or DRZ400. With those two bikes there was lots of clutch play and stalling.
I was even thinking about lowering the gearing for off road use but so far it seem just fine. Now with a couple of thousand K under my belt on this bike, it turns out it is much easier to ride the trials than the DRZ400, a definite bonus for me. Don't get me wrong this is not a trail bike, but you can ride the trails with relative ez
