Also another bearing to check on the G650 (especially after any water or mud hole crossings...not that you would do such a thing) is the swing arm pivot bearings

I had mine apart and the one side looked good but the other side was mud and water filled (they are just tiny needle bearings) and at the very least clean and grease them

I did talk to BMWnut and he has confirmed what you say. I did not have the time to argue the point with the service manager. I know I could get the job done faster myself. I do intend to take this up with them later and will report.

For those of you who that were wondering about the final outcome of the "wear items"

After contacting Pacific BMW Mike said he would look into the situation. He promised to contact me and did just that the next day, he apologised for any misunderstanding and said that the items would be covered under warranty.

I wonder if this would have anything to do with the wheel bearings premature demise:hr:

So its time to spruce the ol bike up a bit

Decided to talk to IanB from Britania Composites http://www.britanniacomposites.comand asked what he could do for my XChallenge.

I want the G650 to be a little more street worthy, the bike will do 140kms all day long, but my arms wont.

So, here it is ! I think we'll call it the BMW X-Challnge 'Adventurer' I'll leave it up to everybody else to decide whether that's what BMW should have done with it in the first place.

The Fairing is a standard Lynx, which has the usual sliding screen, ABS Dashboard and the twin Hella lights, only it has been 'modified' to fit with the X-Challenges 'quirky' front fender. Seems to work though

I wonder how long it will take for Tom to wreck it !:hr:

Its more like a G650 GS,

many people have asked what this bike is like to ride and I tel them is a cross between a DRX400e and a KLR650. It will do any trail that a 400 can do with ez then you can hit the highway and cruise with the big bikes in comfort. The real drawback with this bike is it falls over like a 400 but it picks up like a 650, wish that was the other way around.

Is it for sale...........just not right now:)

Its not finished yet

But I can tell you that there is a lot of dash space here to do what you want

For me that means

using the stock instrument cluster but mounting it high on the dash, I found that I had to tilt my head down to see the dash because I was looking thru the chin guard.

Lots of room lower to put my ram mount on for the GPS and roll chart

Aux switches will be on the left side

Aux power plug ins will be on the front of the dash

Should have pictures soon

tom,now thats the spirit!....the x-challenge is just too good to be true,moderninity, thats the the x's virtue,just can't not have one[at least so far]i'm not really a bmw"guy"& i understand that some people prefer the colour orange,but can you beat it & in which category then,reliability?speed?smoothness?slab capability?style[orange bikes are very stylish i'll admit]fuel consumption?,starting?dealer/parts network?exclusivity?price[yes price]?power?and the ever present let her fly & pick it up again 50 feet down the road and ride onability?

I think it would be perfect for mine as well. It looks awesome and I am sure wil l be much cheaper than the TT version.

What kind of Hella lights are used? I think a pair of HID would be perfect in there. At the very least a dipped HID like I had in my 1150.

You can find out more about the fairing and the HID upgrade option on my website www.britanniacomposites.com . You will see that there is aLynxkit forthe X-Challenge, but it requires a change of front fender to an Acerbis or similar. Many guys make this change anyway, but Tom liked the idea of retaining the OEM one, so I modified one especially to fit. He now owes me a lot of Beer !!:hb:

I would like to keep the OEM fender as well. Any chance you will make two :hb:

Also, I assume that the HID upgrade is not using D2S bulbs, just a rebase version to H9. Correct?
