No GPS, we are going exploring in the Elaho Valley. Follow the Squamish river road, over the bridge mentioned earlier in this thread, and explore the west side of the river. This is just a general idea, we are keeping it open.

Can there be a meeting time for us folks who live up here in Squamish? I'd rather not ride down for such an early meet time just to ride back up. Meet 9AM at the bridge just before the split of Sqamish/Paradise valley roads? That should be right for you coming from Vancouver at 8am, and would work fine for me.

I'll assume we're eating lunch somewhere on the road, so bring that along... anything else I should bring other than the usual gear? First DSBC ride, not first offroad ride.

I'd be up for a ride tomorrow or Sunday as well... Just plunking around the local trails and logging roads this whole weekend.

I'm in for Monday - See everyone at 8:30 at St. Davids. Monday morning traffic is just silly, so the wiser amongst us may want to get their early, and make an offering to the off-road gods (I understand they like a stiff shot of bean in the mornings ;-)....

PS: I was curious as to the ever changing names of the river, and found that the Squamish River has 4 main tributaries which include the Elaho River, Ashlu River, Cheakamus River, and Mamquam River.

I'm in too. I'll be leaving from Whistler. I suggest we meet at the Chevron just north of the ExtraFoods grocery store at 9:30.

That sounds good. The Vancouver group may not know were this is, so here's the address to google maps or put into your gps:
Garibaldi Way 1900-1902
Squamish‎ British Columbia‎ V8B 0P2
Canada

Hopefully I'll see you there at 9:30, if I get all my maintenance done on time. The previous owner sold me the bike with a list a page long of maintenance to do. Today's plan is new wheel bearings, rear sprocket bearing, re-wire signals, check plug, adjust valves... Then go for a ride in this rain! It's eased up so tomorrow should be perfect. See you at the gas station tomorrow.

The plug is new. The valves were inspected by a local shop in January - no adjustment was necessary. You would not have had an issue with the turn signals if the rack was not installed -- you need simple bullet connector extensions. Oil change was just done & I gave you new pads. Yeah, the rear bearings were due & the bars aren't exactly straight. Enjoy the bike - you should get years of use out of her.

Well... Plug was good, (Beautiful jetting by the way! Perfect colors on that plug) Valves needed adjustment as three were out of the acceptable range, bearings were pretty shot though. The signals worked before I left for the ride home, but i didn't get a chance to re-wire them for the rack until this morning. I've ridden a full day of dirt the last two days, around 400km's worth, and i must have jumbled something with the wiring on the signals. The signal weren't getting power at the back and I tracked it down to a connection that was corroded (Its an older offroad bike... its gonna happen) to the point of having no connection, and then again at the signal switch because of the same reason. While i was there i checked for the headlight hi/lo switch and its been wired correctly there, must be at the light or the dimmer.

I bled both the front and rear brakes and the bike stops way better now. I dont know how you dealt with that, you must be one hell of a rider to have ridden the stuff I see in pictures of you on this site with a brake so spongy I couldn't skid the front tire controllably if i wanted to on gravel or the road. I'll throw those new pads on soon, probably when i replace the tire/tube. On that note; the front needs to be filled every morning, so i guess its time for a new tube + tire soon. Clutch and shifter lever have been straightened, bars will be soon, and you also torqued the front end when you bent the bars... it was easy to straighten though.

Bike is working awesome so far, definitely impressing me offroad and onroad. Few things to do to have it more comfortable on the road, and I think I may play with the suspension and maybe move the pegs back for offroad riding. Its a tad hard to lift the front wheel for logs or 'whoops'. Dont get me wrong, not trying to put you down (The PO), just saying that I have a few things to get around to if i'm to ride tomorrow.

As i said when i bought the bike: Lets see how many hundred thousand km's i can put on her.

That sounds great. We have 5 riders heading up from Vancouver, 9:30 at Chevron will work. That is the last Chevron heading north through Squamish, across street from Petrocan east side of the hwy? Please confirm (no GPS for this dude).

Ride was awesome, we sure got a long ways out there!
A few riders had to leave around 2:30 to get home by dinner, and then several more at 3ish as they were running low on fuel. Excuse me for names, but the DRZ, GS, and myself trudged on until we hit one of the ends. I think this might have been the end (See google maps satellite. It gets harry up there unless you go east to pemberton, but there's no roads there.) We found one road 'E1000' that seemed large but we didn't have time to follow it. There was also a route marked 'closed' that went across the river and into Clendinning Provincial Park that would be worthwhile persuing, blocked only by a gravel mound - no trouble for anyone in the group.

I turned my SPOT on about an hour into the ride from Squamish (The time stamps on my SPOT are 3 hours off, i'll fix that soon...) but this gives you a great idea of where we went. When I get my bike set up proper i'll be able to run my Phone's GPS off the battery and give a true track without points every 15 mins, just a pure tracking line. The SPOT only sends the location every 15 mins, and sometimes there is something in the way of the satelite, or the bike has flipped over and is on top of me, so the signal doesn't get out. It only sends once every 15 mins when its on tracking.

One Video:

My one video didn't turn out great, but i'm sure others have better pictures and videos, anyone else?
We'll have to do this one again and search the rest of the seemingly endless amount of forest 'service' roads (How is cutting the trees down 'service'?) out in the valley. I'd also like to make a full day of it and ride to Pemberton and take the logging roads north-west from there to see if they hook up with these ones, or at least how close they get. Something like this, looks to be within 15km's of were we ended up: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sour...49864&sspn=1.428401,2.469177&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=10 Maybe latter this season before the snow hits?

I uploaded the pics onto photobucket now so it should work. Weird the forums unloader doesnt work right.

I'll keep an eye out for any more rides up in my neck of the woods. PM me if something is coming up my way and i dont notice and i should come out for the ride - I will be away until september though. If someone wants to do Indian Arm or one of the powerline roads to Vancouver i'd be interested, and of course we should test out those roads to Woodfiber!

While we're paused for the pictures, a small thread hijack to pass the time...

Did you get a new bike yet motorambler? What are you looking at?
Haven't bought anything yet. I thought I'd get myself a decent 2-stroke to ride McNutt (spend about $5K). Now, I'm thinking of getting 2 cheap(er) bikes, like maybe a $2K McNutt bike & a $3K DS bike. I dunno what ima do -- decisions, decisions... :)

Glad to hear you guys had a good ride. Not sure if you noticed a 450 Husky on the back of a black Dodge Ram pass you at around Furry Creek. That was me. I was on my way up to meet you guys at the Chevron. When i got there I checked in with a guy I assume was from Squamish and then I went to unload my bike in the parking lot beside the Chevron. My bike was off the truck and as i was gearing up, you all pulled away. I guess I should have gone over to confirm you knew I was there. No worries, I did a fair bit of off-fsr stuff and had a great day anyway. Also, looking at the distance you road, I would struggle to go that far on my tank. I only went up as far as the bridge at 36km and I was on fumes by the time i got back to the Chevron.

Sorry it did not work out Rick, we saw you there (at Chevron, and on the road), but did not know you were coming along, and lost sight of you when you went to park. I guess you should have posted up or come over to talk to the whole bunch of us. The ride was about 250km, with some riders turning back earlier. Gas would not have been a problem as we had a few tankers (I mean KLR's) along as well as other bikes with oversize tanks. Speaking of which, Lane did you guys make it back without having to siphon gas?
