this is my bike with chen shing [sp] tires on it, they are dot approved. i found the bike quite capable of dualsporting in this set up. the only thing i found was that the sm suspension set up is not as ''plush'' as a true dualsport suspension. it is more designed for street/cornering.
be careful also with your rims, those pretty sm rims are not as tough as a true dirt rim. installing a larger, true dirt rim on the front and rear will bottom out at times and rub on the fenders.
one very important thing to remember is that the front brake is super sensitive on loose terrain. you will be on your a** in a heartbeat if you are not gentle on the front brake. i know this from personal exp:hr:
the sm gearing will be fine as the bike has a 6 speed tranny, where the first gear is really low, and 6th is nice and tall for highway use.
the cost for this set up, was $120 for the tires. Bill at 5th Gear can set you up, he is well versed in dirt/ sm/ dualsport craziness.
