Who has a KTM 690?

Riders,

I have added a KTM 690 E to the stable and am curious as to what other riders have done to their 690's, any difficulties experienced, and any suggestions they might have.

TIA,
Ged

I have had no problems with my 690R. I did add some protection to the rad where the fan shroud hits it. I used GoreTex tape I had in the garage.

I am very careful to not get dirt into the tank when filling up and I think an aftermarket gas cap/nozzle will go on soon.

As I posted on here already, opening up the exhaust & intake and remapping the EFI did wonders to the throttle response. I ride in 2nd on trails nowwhere I used to have to rev it in 1st. I gotta get to Kamloops and get outta 2nd...

I think adding Tubliss did a lot too. I run 12 psi all the time now, although if I was going more than 10kms on the highway I would air up. Stock, with no rim lock, I tried 18psi a bit but that is too much air. Even at 35 psi the rear tire got hot on the highway with my HD tube.

I bought my bike with 3,000kms on it. It was leaking fork oil from the right seal. RMR fixed it up with new seals and a bushing on the right side. It looked like the OEM bushing was installed crooked from the factory.

It seems to me that the suspension is working better all the time. More supple now than when I got it. I did back the compression and rebound adjusters out 4 clicks at a time and ended up running 30 of 32 out on the fork compression and about 20 out on rebound. The shock is similar, backed out the hi/low compression almost all the off and rebould about 3/4 of the way off.

This works in the tight rocky stuff but I may be in trouble if I hit some fast G-outs!

Bryon,
So, how did you open up the intake and exhaust??? Are you talking valves or airfilter box and new pipe?

Hot tires?....Less pressure = hotter tires (more carcass flex)

I would be nervous running less than 16 lbs on those tires on rough stuff (pinch flats and rim dings).... The MT 21's are OK....might put a Dunlop RR 908 on rear when time to change....maybe Metzler Karoo TT on front

Did you just tape the edge of the fan cowling, or did you cut some off before taping edge.....Goretex tape????what's that??

I consider this to be my backroader/gravel-dirt road bike (hooligan in town on occasion) and will use the 450 EXC for single track ....

Are you happy with the fuel range...what do you do for "packing gas"?

Thanks for your comments.

Bryon,
what mapping did you use for the remap???? KTM or Akro???

I was considering a throttle cam to tame that fuel delivery......whoooaaa:f::f:

Ged, I would say before you buy a Cam, try setting the MAP switch - that's what it is there for.

From KTM you can only get the OEM or Akro map. And as far as I can tell, nobody else can remap these things. I have the Akro map in mine now. $100 at Holeshot KTM.

Ya, the ignition map switch does wonders. Mine has 3 settings (9 positions tho??) Std is mellow and Advanced is very fun. I haven't tried the mexican gas setting.

I put on a header and silencer from FMF and a DNA air filter and removed the airbox cover/snorkle thing. Not recommended for wet conditions but I am working on a fix for that.

Istuck my 1/4" wide x about 1/8 thick foam like tape on the rad. I used the rub marks as a guide!

I have TKC80's on f/r at 12 psi. The rims are not getting dinged up but if I got going faster I would have to air up. I don't worry about pinch flats now. TuBliss has no tube to pinch.

I get about 20kms per litre on the hwy. That is a 240k range. I have never got less than about 140-150 on a tank with off-roading involved. I am thinking about getting a 4-8 litre fuel bladder to give me a bit more range.
