Why not support the pro bono work being done by BCCOM lawyers? They are already on this and it would seem our efforts might be duplicating their efforts.

Just a thought....otg

We (by we I mean off road riders) use to have a representative on the BCCOM but I have heard and seen nothing from whom ever that was. Dave Lock was the last name I remember.

I have not heard anything from the BCCOM. Does anyone here have contact with the BCCOM? I would hate to think that we would be pinning our hopes on a group that does not even know we have a problem.:(

otg seeing you seem to have some information that BCCOM is on this, maybe you could see what they are doing and what they need from us.

From a post on the bcsportbike site I quote:

"I agree with all of you that these regulations don't seem consistent or equitable. And Dave, maybe there was no interest last year b/c it didn't seem to affect people as much then. But now it's in our face.

McNeney & McNeny is the legal council for BCCOM. Let me assure you, they have fought and won many battles for the rights of motorcyclists. Jim is passionate about riding and he is doing this pro bono (bless his soul). He has given us a list of things to do before we can start. I will do my best to keep you updated through BCSportbikes and through our website. Meanwhile, joining BCCOM for $40/year is a small token to show our appreciation for the amount of effort and resources required to do this."

I might be more useful to coodinate our activities with BCCOM and BCSportbikes rather than fight this battle on our own.

I personally don't have time to do the leg work as life gets in the way but will assist wherever possible.

You did not have to get this from another site, all you had to do is read the bulletin.

His name and contact informationare on the bulletin.

I came across an interesting page on the Immigration Canada web site.

"3. Vehicles (other than buses) from the 1985 model year to date

- Vehicles in this category can be imported into Canada if they meet requirements (a) through (f) below.

(a) - All vehicles must bear a Statement of Compliance (SOC) label affixed by the original manufacturer or be accompanied by a letter from the original manufacturer indicating that they were certified to comply with United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.(Applicable to all vehicle classes.)"

Other requirements for motorcycles included daytime running lights and metric speedometers. This could of interest to those who have imported used bikes from the US that were deemed compliant in the US.

Latest motorcycle accident here in Kelowna... What struck me is right near the end of the video when the fireman lifts the bike up and there is gasoline POURING out of the Metal tank...

I only mention it because of a comment earlier in the thread regarding laying in a puddle of your own fuel... I guess even tanks that are metal and are DOT approved can be rendered useless...

In response to the videomany automobile manufacturers are now manufacturing cars with PLASTIC fuel tanks. Lighter in weight and easier to manufacture in complex shapes the new PLASTIC tanks can be fitted in safer locations on the vehicle.

I am certain that you can penetrate a steel fuel tank on a bike much easier than a plastic one. I actually can't recall seeing a plastic motorcycle tank compromised but have seen many steel ones leaking or perforated.

That's an overwhelming response......Tom, do you havea contact name and number at BCCOM? I can web search it but it might be easier if you can point me to someone that is familiar with DSBC.

Sorry otg, just wrote you a big apology and all sorts of good information and lost the post:mad3:to lazy to write it all out again. In short I did not mean to pick on you.

Adele Tompkins is our contact with BCCOM, she is very familiar with DSBC.

I didn't mean you overwhelmed me. I was being sarcastic about the number of volunteers stepping up to contact BCCOM when I tried to opt out.

If you have an email or phone for Adele can you PM me?

I will see what I can find out.

Hopefully that guy isn't hurt too bad...but like you said from the thread before about the flaming gas tank...so much for the DOT guys on the site talking about how unsafe my Non dot tank is....:shoot:

Every time I tell myself I'm not going to post any more on this topic...something like this fuels my fire...no pun intended.:mb:

I talked to Brian at Okanagan Motorsports last night and he is in the process of putting a Husaberg 390 through ICBC.

We will know soon if it gets insured.

very possible it will go through....but the fact remains it doesn't meet the standards deemed needed asper the link at the begining of the thread.so now if it goes through its somewhat illegal ,rather than going through on a loophole with thegovernment

yea for sure, but for how long?! do i go get insurance for next year in fear that i wont be able to next spring (and then be SOL as far as having a bike to ride)? or will i be able to saunter in to the insurance agency next year (without the bike of course, its not insured!) and see the grandfather rule in effect. and if so, for how long?

anyone have any sound beta on what is in store for us RUM-riders?

spc and fartypants, you can try and justify these new regulations as you want but really this is about money and not safety. not offering any "break-in" period with warning goes to show you how no respect as been given to us and consequently no respect is earned. i really feel for people out there who have bought bikes in hopes to DS them without knowing the BS that is suddenly crushing their dreams. also, i am one of many who rides such a bike as a way to minimize my impact as far as carbon emissions goes....green is only good if its makes money i guess. :shoot:

I don't think you will have any problems. There is no where on my insurance papers that states that my bike has ever been inspected for the road. The paper is the same as any non RUMMED bike. The insurance lady at Super store is not going to come out side to check any ones bike.Any further more, DOT is to busy policing trucks to worry a bout mine bike or your "e"model Drz...ride like a white man in the city...don't get pulled over for something stupid and I don't think you will ever have any problems..save the crazy stuff for the bush.....and the DOT guys on the site..being DS guys should be tiring to help us and not tow the government line....And before I get any hate mail...I am not attacking spc or fartypants...to me it just comes down to some common sense.

My guess is they can tell everything they need to know from the VIN on their computer. Time will tell when someone tries to renew.....anyone out there with a RUM renewed their plate recently????

I have been warning,on this site, about this issue for several years. Check out thecomments I have made over the years about RUMs. I posted the link to this bulletin the same day it was issued. I thought I was helping. Apparently not.

You wonder about my common sense?Over the years I have seen the difficultly of getting dirt bikes licenced and the games that some people have gone through to get licenced. My common sense tells me that if it was legal it would not be so difficult.
