I'm not going to cry too hard about this one. There are already too many @ss clowns running around Vancouver with no turn signals, non-DOT tires and taped on plates. I even got passed by a guy last week with no headlight, yet somehow he had plates and insurance.

If this is what our fellow bikers think of us what do non-bikers think of us? :?

The Bikes being talked about in your quote could be legal Dualsport bikes, not RUMs.

And the same thing can be said for cars and trucks too. Not to mention the guys racing around Surrey in their make-believe rally cars. It's endless.

I guess we can all just ride the Sky Trains and Buses that smell like piss.

I think you are preaching to the choir here:mad3:

I don't know what forum this comes from but the guy is obviously not informed, its kinda sad that he doesnt understand that he is next. We are all in the same boat, we better get along and understand each others problems otherwise we are all finished. Although I am glad that your are getting fedback from DSBC members:tup:

Just feel like ranting....

1 I will be shocked if ICBC ever looks at your VIN tag. The autoplan brokers are not out to enforce laws.

2. I think it is imposible for ICBC to tell by VIN if your bike is RUM or a MC

3. I do not believe that bikes sold in Canada as M/C actually go through any testing by the fedral governent. The manufacture claims it passes and the feds take their word. (For example I highly doubt the feds are crash testing rolls royce just to make sure it meets their standards.

4 fight the system not the people.

5 put in retroactive legislation

6 if no laws have changed then maybe you can still get your bike passed.

Fight the system....

Yes, we are fighting but WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Currently there is a maze of regulations and ICBC policy that may or may not be law. With the help of McNeney & McNeney, we are organizing a coalition of BC Motorcycle Inspectors to clarify these inconsistencies and resolve these issues.

http://bcsportbikes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=115158

This is a huge task and Jim McNeney will assist us pro bono at no cost but we NEED YOUR HELP. The task of contacting, communicating and uniting all the BC inspectors takes much resources in time, energy and money.

Please donate your time and/or money so we can make a positive change. Contact me through DSBC to see how you can get involved.

Right now we need help with creating this coalition of motorcycle inspectors. There are over 100 shops in BC that are class 6 inspection facilities. We needyour helpto communicate with them to create a unified voice so that our lawyer can take the next steps. We need to do this right away so that we can organize to have a round of first meetings in November.

Contact me if you can help with contacting these shop owners and inspectors. Remember, we're not here to debate about what is right or wrong. We only want to invite them to join forces with us. The legal part should be left to the lawyer.

Please feel free to email me: [email protected]

Let's not waste any more time while ICBC and the government agencies lay down a bunch of regulations and policies that "may or may not be law". Let's sort this out now while we have the generous support of McNeney & McNeney, the legal council for BC Coalition of Motorcyclist.

The work this shop is doing for our sport is the best. There knowledge on big bore Hondas far exceeds requirement.

People, get behind this movement. The future of this sport depends on it!!

Cheers :hb:

Anyone slipped one past the goalie lately on this issue?

I can't help but think about perhaps the hooligans on dirt bikes or SM in the city have pissed off enough people and ruined it for the guys who are serious off road riders who modified their bikes to get from home to the dirt via tarmac. Your not going to see my bikes in the back of the truck or on a trailer just to get to my trails. To hell with them.

Actually, I changed my mind. The guys that ride through walking paths and parks are pissing people off and giving us a bad name. But most importantly, the dealers are to blame for putting a lot of dirt bikes on the street that are absolutely not legal. In order to push sales, they used to print NVIS's by the thousands so guys ride their new dirt bikes registered and insured off the lot. No safety inspection has been done on these. They don't even have street legal tires on them. That's what Victoria should be trying to stop.

I also agree that perhaps the manufacturers are pushing for this to slash at the secondary market for used bikes, by "restricting" their use, therefore diminishing their value. That way, they are the only ones that can sell new bikes to the general public AND the only ones that can register a dirt bike.

I highly doubt the recent ICBC changes have anything to do with hooligans pissing off their neighbours.

I haven't been aware of this issue until just recently and I made the "hooligan" statement based on what I read in this thread from many pages back:

Why has your agency decided to issue this advisory and actively pursue the end of converting RUM bikes?

· Due to inspection liability concerns raised from Designated Inspection Facility Operators and Authorized Inspectors and a sharp increase in safety concerns received from the public and other enforcement agencies regarding these vehicles.

Sounds like people complaining to me. Anyways we all stand to loose in the end and to be honest I don't think any legal action is going to help. From my experience anything that has to do with Transport Canada is unlikely to be amended anytime soon. It's too bad the RUM issue ended up on the radar in the first place.

I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S A TRANSPORT CANADA INITIATIVE, OR A BC BASED ONE. BUT OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING SET IT OFF ON THE RADAR SCREEN,FOR A BULLITEN LIKE THAT TO BE ISSUED. IT PROBABLY WASN'T A DUDE ON A RUM BIKE WITH DOT KNOBBIES,HEADING OUT FOR A DIRT ROAD RIDE FROM HIS HOUSE IN TOWN.

I'm hearing it is the Manufactures that have set this whole thing off.

It is working through all Province's.

For Liability reasons they do not want non TC approved bikes on the road regardless of what the Acts sayor you do to comply with said Acts.

This is absolute bu-- s--t.

Big buisnes runs goverment ect.

I bought a bike from out east cheaper because the legislation is all ready in efect.

I made all the mods to make this far more road worthy than the best ktm has to offer and now some guy says I have to go out to support your bigger picture.

I call bull.

When will they learn

The big thing that will come next is that this has been the law for a long time- just not enforced. So how many people with $10 000 coverted dirt bikes who can't ride them on the road anymore are going to go and sue the shops that converted them?

THIS IS A VERY REAL POSSIBILITY! AT THE TIME,WHEN SHOPS WERE DUALSPORTING AN OFFROAD MODEL,THEY WERE JUST FOLLOWING THE INSPECTION LIST AS IT WAS WRITTEN (I ASSUME AS I'M NOT A DEALER/INSPECTOR). THAT BEING SAID-SOMEONE ELSE (GOVERNMENT) IS NOW CHANGING THE RULES AND ARBRITARILY PICKING ON DUALSPORT BIKES,WHILE STILL TURNING A BLIND EYE TO UBILT MOTORCYCLES IE: CHOPPERS. SO I'M SERIOUSLY THINKING OF STARTING WITH A BARE FRAME AND BUILDING MYSELF A UBILT MOTORCYCLE. CAN ANYONE DIG UP A INSPECTION LIST,THAT WE COULD USE TO BUILD/COMPLY WITH THE RULES IN BUILDING A UBILT MOTORCYCLE? MY CONNECTION IS DOWN IN BAJA RIGHT NOW. HEY MAYBE FARTYPANTS WILL HELP US ON THIS ONE?

Here is a question. My xr650r is street legal in australia and many parts of europe and asia. The bike is identical other than signal lights ect. I have added all the parts to make this a street legal road worthy motorcycle. the street model in australia comes uncorked from the factory yet the usa dirt version is so choked off and even has a air pump installed in california. If push comes to shove the vin will be obliterated, the plastic will be changed, and it will be a u built. If I have to I will build a cromolly frame. no judge or law court can dispute that a bike like that is not any less of a u built than all of these choppers out there. Besides U built means built by me ridden by me. So how are these custom shops getting away with selling those non road worthy pieces of junk?? I feel I can say this because I used to weld the frames and other components for a fella that was selling them for a stupid amount of money. You would not catch me on one even if it was free!!

What ever happened to agovernment of the people for the people.

TI WELDER,I LIKE THE WAY YOU THINK. THERE ARE SO MANY WHAT IF'S IN THIS BULLETIN THAT I CAN'T SEE IT HOLDING UP IF SOMEONE REALLY WANTS TO FIGHT IT.WHAT CAN YOU FIND OUT FOR US ABOUT REGS/REQUIREMENTS IN BUILDING A UBILT BIKE FROM SCRATCH? THE OLD SAYING-MORE THAN ONE WAY TO SKIN A CAT,COMES TO MIND.

As far as I know, Hi low beam, hi beam indicator, horn, tail light, brake light, signal lights(optional), batery backup for horn and lights, chain guard, side reflectors, licence plate light.

Seams easy enough. Like I said, the junk called "custom" is a bigger problem. Not one of those raked out, obnoxously loud, emmision spewing, ill handeling bikes even comes close to being as road worthy as our converted bikes. I have a mc plate for now but we will see what happens next year.

Here is some food for thought. I once saw a u built trailer with the main frame and toung made of 2 by 10 with the hitch and axel bolted on!
